i dont crap bout this stuff so i dont know if its good or not

But im about to run out the half price inernet deal they have and will have to go down a speed cause 120 bucks a month for 1500 speed is a bit high. So i think i will be giving them a call to see what else they can do for faster connection

Don't go with Bigpond, they are so OVERPRICED and they lock you into a 12 / 24 month contract:ranting: . SHOP AROUND!!!!
check out http://www.internode.on.net/adsl/pricing/home.htm you can get 1.5mb with a 20gb limit for around $70 p/m.

also check http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-plan.cfm
fill in the details, eg. How much you want to spend a month, speed you want, data amount, etc.
Then it will give you a list of ISP's with prices relating to you plan search. You can then click on the ISP and it will give you PRO's and CON's on each one.

thats where they like to confuse people. they assume that the average customer doesnt know the difference between megabits per second, and megabytes per second. network speeds are measured in bits per second, but download speeds are measured in bytes per second. a byte is 8 bits, so the download speed will always look smaller when compared to the bandwidth the network can handle

Not to mention that out of those bytes, 20-30% of each packet sent is header information.

For example someone on a 512/128 connection transfers 512000 bits per second

512000 / 8 = 64 maximum theoretical kilobytes per second.

However on a 512 connection the maximum speed you will invariably reach will hover between 52-54kb/s.

So 10-12kb is also lost.

It can all get very confusing very quick to those who aren't computer minded. Like a gigabyte is 1024mb, but on many ISP's its measured as 1000mb.

iinet adsl2 here ... connection speed 12283/1023... download speeds are usually between 900KB/s and 1.3MB/s. Best I've done is when I got Vista RC1 (around 3.5GB) in 45 minutes.
