Hi, just joined the forum. I have always LOVED early commodores, specifically 1980's era. I recently picked up my 1984 VK Calais and had it registered for the first time in a long while. A previous owner had stored it for 10 years before I picked It up. I've since cleaned it up a little and registered it. I love the old feel to it, the leather, digital dash and other features. Since we had such good weather today, I snapped a few pictures at lunch. Thanks for viewing - Future plans: Try to find Calais wheels, maybe pacemakers, mild cam, ultralows.
Thanks everyone, I wasn't sure about the rims. I'd like some polished Calais rims but these days pretty hard to find. Driveline everything is completely stock except for the exhaust..which is straight through..no mufflers . One day I'd like to get a mild cam but first is lowering. I made a thread this morning about current height maybe someone could answer
Polished calais rims would look great! as for going lower, ultra lows on the old girls tend to go a bit too low i'd stick with supers especially on the smaller wheel. Look after her mate this thing is a gem!
Thankyou 75 that's very kind . I have posted some photos of the rims and measurements if anyone can pleeeaase offer advice of which springs to fit it would be a great help: Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Idealy i'd like to tuck a bit of tyre..let me know what you think!
My mate has ultra lows on his VL Calais, he gets some severe scrub issues, i'd go super low or super super. but not ultra, maybe see if you can get the guards rolled too.
by the looks of it, it's already on superlows don't go any lower, you'll be riding the bump stops and it's going to ride & handle like a pig It's surprising how little suspension travel these things have even at that ride height. I'm looking at winding up the adjusters on mine to increase the height just a bit. It keeps smashing bump stops to pieces. seriously, looks good as it is, it will look like a bogan-mobile if you go any lower. Looks good though mate, definitely a set of polished Calais wheels would top it off
Looks awsome mate very tidy, mines almost the same and I have ultra lows but long way of fitting so can't be much help sorry, lol
Everyone says don't go ultra low, buys them anyway haha be sure to post up some pics and maybe a little review after they've settled in!
aww man, you put in the ultra? ****. Seeing pictures of this old girl is pushing me harder to go and find myself another old girl.... but really? Ultras? Mate, you will look like an out and out hoon mobile asking to be pulled over and then you will lose the joy of driving it. I also figure you will never admit to how much it just killed your ride comfort. lol
lmao!! Nah I bought them and haven't fitted them yet. In the end, you gotta do what you gotta do.. I want to have it low for summer and basically .. hard to explain the look im going for but here goes. I'll have it slammed but with mudflaps...constantly waxed and spotless..stock, clean interior (incl stock headunit), factory stickers (dealership/ming rust protection/1984 rego). I guess the lowering will look a little hoonish but I dunno..we can only wait until tomorrow. Hopefully it will look good, I will share the photos soon.. **if anyone has a sun visor let me know
Hi everyone. Over the weekend I had my new springs fitted and also waxed and detailed my Calais to really make that turd-brown shine. Weather was okay on Sunday so I took some photos for this thread...but just remembered I haven't yet uploaded them to Imageshack. okay here they are: Out with the old, in with the new. As always the rear were much easier to remove than the front. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Here's a nasty suprise, no wonder I couldn't figure out what kind of springs I originally had. They were crudely chopped factory springs! So bloody dangerous.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Front's removed, ready for the new springs.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Another bodgy finding.. the fronts were also cut..oh and held in place with a cable tie and duct tape. Firstly, proper dangerous..secondly how the f did this pass RWC?? Uploaded with ImageShack.com Moving on..After detailing the car, I went for a drive to Williamstown. First time highway driving. Was fine until I hit a certain speed..:| Uploaded with ImageShack.com After I traveling through the very fabric of the space-time continuum, I grabbed some more photos from today and more importatly how the VK now sits.. Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com Uploaded with ImageShack.com The ride is very comfortable. To be honest I was hoping it would sit a little lower but it may still sag. Should I keep the mudflaps on or? I hope you all like it and thanks for viewing. Dean
Still love those old Calais's. Been a long time since I've seen one that clean and original
leave the flaps, leave eveything, that looks really nice. one thing though, you got an adjustable panhard bar? the pics looks like its pretty centered. something to keep in mind though. one thing (cos being picky is what i do) see if you cant get the grille to sit a little bit higher in the center. its pointing downwards at the moment so the gap in the center (under the bonnet) is larger than the outsides. its little touches like that that make a good car great.
