No commercial nav apps for the iPhone yet. Apple have the developers by the balls on that one. Have heard rumours that there is something in the works though.

Considering the battery life of the iPhone i'd rather go out and buy a cheap tomtom or navman for foolproof navigation anyway.

Doesn't matter, it uses google maps streamed from the web. There are no maps "installed" on an iphone.

    I'm all good with messages.

There's been talks for a while now that the next firmware is going to include navigation with voice. I think they said that for 2.2 though and no luck. We got street view, maybe 2.3 will have it.

how do you guys use the iphone.

having just gotten one for christmas, i'm wondering whats the go with it.
i just have a simple $30 plan with telstra which is up for renewal where i get charged a fortune for calls, messages, mms, internet etc. everything i do is charged heavily with no real bonuses.

i txt a fair bit to friends, mainly telstra. i get a few free txt's, but only at night. the rest are charged at 15 cent's a txt (i love the days of telstra pre-paid 1 cent txt, lol) also, i make a few calls to work, which are normally only local calls.

i'd like to be able to do some mms's off this phone, how do i go about setting that up? i'd like to use the gps function, but haven't been game enough to use it yet as it most likely will cost me $50 in internet charges for all of 3 seconds, lol.

any surgestions on good plans? (preferably with telstra?) my friend has a plan with telstra for either 28 or 30 a month which has free mms, free txt, free internet etc etc and i think you only pay for calls, but i think that is a hiptop specific plan, otherwise i like the sound of that plan.

any other things i should do to my iphone? i'm still waiting to be able to download version 2.2. hopefully thursday i'll get time too do that?

    any other surgestions?

Number 1 - iPhones are useless without a decent data plan, other than that they are good for making phone calls and that's about it, lol.
Am quite happy with mine as work provided the phone plus a 3gig dataplan per month.

Jump on the whirlpool iPhone forum and have a read up to see what may be the best for you in the way of plan/data

Optus probably have the best value, but Telstra easily has the best coverage.

I'm paying 60 a month with Optus and that's getting me a few hundred in calls/sms and that also includes 500mb in cellular data. Which I've gone close to once, but generally I'm using wifi wherever I am.

Firmware 2.2 doesn't have much of a change to it, unless of course you're still on 2.0, then you'll get better battery life and better reception.

Definitely need a good data plan though.

If you want MMS you'll have to jailbreak the phone, whirlpool is the best place to read up about that. I've done it to mine and it has its benefits, but if you're a novice user you may want to give it a miss, as you can ruin your phone if you don't know what you're doing.

I enjoy it, took me a while to get used to typing. But the most important thing is to ignore the errors and let the phone fix them. But yeah like I said, I enjoy my iPhone, it's annoying at times being touch screen, but in general it does more then any other phone I've had my hands on.

Not if you're trying to prove a point that it's comparable or better then the iPhone, no.

I'm not saying it's the best phone on the market, but it's still ahead of other phones. Except for it's pathetic camera.

Jailbreak it, really quite easy to do just follow a tutorial off whirpool.
I've been finding my battery is lasting longer after having done so.

Apple is slowly getting all the funtionality ou of the phone slowly.... this keeps people interested and keeps them selling.

Jailbreak it and get a WHOLE lot more functionality.... MMS was he best 12 bucks i spent for the software.
