Have to change a regulator on my son in laws Supercharged VX Calais and I've suggested it's far easier to simply swap over alternators and not have to crack open and desolder the old regulator.

So I am wondering whether the normal LG2 unit will fit straight on the L67 ?

The reg is easily removed by undoing 2 screws. No need to crack open and solder.

Alternators are different, the reg sits in a different position.

As above, the reg comes out with 2 screws :)

If the L67 alternator is dead and you have an ecotec one of the correct amperage you can swap the rear casings of the L67 alt onto the new ecotec alt and it's good to go.

x2 I’ve done it before. An Ecotec alt won’t fit - it’s not worth trying to make it fit either. Just get the right housing.

Thanks guys,

I just haven't had any experience with an L67 and I thought there might be a difference with an Ecotec unit.

It was the diode plate that I got confused with over the regulator as I always thought the reg on these units were fitted internally but it's actually the diode plate that's soldered in.

Again a huge thanks.

Yeah diodes are internal. Found that out when I tried to turn one into a welder. Ended up using an old 63a mitsubishi externally regulated alternator instead. Welds up to 5mm plate fine. Plan to fit a 100a+ alt but they're hard to find externally regulated in my price range (cheap or free)
