Is anyone considering the NG commodore after their VF?

CG Captiva 5 Series 2
The Holden model range has been weak in too many sectors that really mattered for too long and ironically, their strongest models were in those sectors of diminishing market sectors. It's no wonder that their market share has fallen so much.

Re Drover and Scurry. They might have been fine when marketed as Suzuki's but they were never convincing with Holden badges. And as for the suitability of the Captiva for its intended market, it was very suitable in its early years. Keeping a virtually unchanged vehicle for eleven years is what has made it so inadequate now.

I'd say best case scenario for a lot of us is if Chevrolet make the Camaro a global car like the Mustang so we don't pay 100k for something that should really be 65k

They changed it from Kingswood to Commodore when they made it smaller, modern & made it handle ... making it FWD & even more modern is a bigger difference IMHO.

FWD is more modern??? Reasons you go to FWD - cost of production, slighly improved interior space, both at the expense of driving dynamics.

I think so, when the FWD car loses its newness, that neutral bias, I think FWD front end is expected to do far too much. How long does a modern front wheel drive that has been engineered to feel neutral (in bias) take to start feeling like a front wheel drive (which it is).
Old RWD just keep feeling predictable (looser, but pridictable).

You only have to drive a FWD that has a lot of kms on it (and no maintenance to suspension) and compare it to a Holden Commodore with similar kms on it (also no maintenance to suspension, which is normal LoL)
which car do you prefer?

Have they improved reliability of suspension and handling on FWD without requiring lots of dollars in extra expense and replacement parts that don't last as long?

FWD costs less to build, which means you can spend more on suspension/chassis tune to get it to handle.

You rob Peter to pay Paul, but Paul still gets paid.

However - no, it’s not the FWD that makes it more modern, it’s the fact it was developed over 10 years later that makes it more modern.

Nice theory. Doesn't stack up in my view though. Build an inferior design, because it's cheaper. Then add cost to male it better, but still not as good?
10 years newer doesn't make something more modern and making something more modern doesn't mean it's better.

We really don’t know whether it’s better; but the one person in this thread who’s compared says it is.

RenaultSport Megane disagrees about FWD not handling ...

FWD's can handle ? that depends on what you mean by handling.
Smaller cars are not as bad as the bigger FWD's.
The Mini for example on the race trace did well back in them days, I don't think they did well in rally driving, if they did I don't remember them, the Datsun 1600 and the Ford Escorts were the go.

Big FWD are rubbish just look at the yanks and the junk FWD's they made, modern day FWD can be a good driving car, I was impressed with the Toyota Aurion for a FWD and most people would be totally happy as to drive such a thing, it's not my cup of tea, just don't drive it on dirt roads or push it past 8 10ths and you can live with it, it's much like living in Australia in the present day, you have been dictated as to only what you can do and what you can't do type of thing and it's not to endearing at all, it's all ok if you are just a boring backward sod, but on the other hand most people are just boring and dull and happy to live that way.
But for us who have a life and have that ability to excel above the mundane the FWD car will never capture the imagination or the Spirit of what greatness is truly about.

You make a good point about large / heavy FWD's there Zeke.
