    my Mrs has tonsilitis WTF!?
    I reckon the clunk is normal, happens to me cos i park facing up a hill so the weight of the car on the lock in the trans makes a clunk when i shift out of park. On flat ground no noise.

    There are two easy ways to remedy this 'issue'.

    1. Switch the ignition off while selector is still in Reverse or Drive.

    2. Move selector to Neutral - pause then into Park.

    It's all to do with drive line (transmission) 'wind up' and by undertaking either of the above, the trans. 'relaxes' and you shouldn't experience the 'thump' etc.
