Does this look right? It looks like my gearbox sits way too far to the drivers side. Its been like this since i bought the car, but never really bothered to look into it further

you could have the gb crossmember in the wrong way around. the holes for the gb mount sit slightly offset to one side.

yea i think thats in the right way. one side of the mount drops down lower than the other, so i think i got that right

Highly unlikely unless you have an engine mount that is very broken and the rear cross member is also badly bent. The rear only goes on one way as it's sort of j shaped. Another option is your gb is broken but it wouldn't be running if that were the case. Are you sure the plate that is riveted to the tunnel is aligned properly???

Pretty sure that they should be in the middle.
Get under it and check your tail shaft, i bet its not running straight into the centre joint.

hmm that could be another possibility. engine mounts are fine.

i beg to differ.. there is another 'platform' that bolts on top of the crossmember itself (dont know exact names). that is what has holes offset for the gb mount to bolt on to. Worth a look anyway.... you had you running gear completely pulled out at one stage, so things MAY have not gone back correctly, just a possibility

I have made the mistake myself before..

i doubt it would be the shifter plate on the floor, cause the gear stick sits no where near middle in relation to the console (radio section)

ok well i just fit my billet shifter and tried a few things. i took off the gearbox mount and the box didnt really move at all. still sits crooked a bit. could there be something wrong around the engine mount area?

i flipped the gearbox mount around and reinstalled it, but the holes wouldnt line up so i figured that was wrong.

after i fit the billet shifter, and jacked up the box to reinstall the mount, the side of the shifter caught onto the hole and knocked off the ring that holds the rubber boot on, so its definately way too far to the drivers side. will have to try fix that ring and figure out whats causing this

I've got my money on the front rails being bent from that previous stack, might be stretchy rack time

hmm that all seemed to be suspension related though. wheel hit a gutter. havent found any other evidence of accident damage. i know my vn has a few noticable things such as bent metal near the airbox where the engine bolts up to the guard, and the headlight bracket has a few bends in it. i havent found anything too bad with the vr

i had a look under my VN just now. it would have to be massively out of wack to have the gearbox that far across. I know u said you tried turning the gb mount around and it didnt fit.... but did you try removing the mount from that other section (sits on top of crossmember), and flip that around??

yeah what i did was unbolt everything. flipped over the bit that goes on the bottom of the gearbox and top of the mount. then put the mount on the same way that it came off. i could give it another shot, possibly with an engine crane supporting the engine a bit to allow a bit more free movement. its quite possible that the previous owner put the mount on backwards. i think i did this to my VN, as i noticed my exhaust is crooked on my VN after putting the new mount on

Yeah pretty sure thats way wrong, I put a 5 speed in my vr v6 and it sits nicely in the middle of the tunnel. Can;t really give any advice as to why though... mount maybe? or as greenfoam said bent chassis. good luck man

does the tail shaft appear to be in a straight line all the way from the diff pointing to the center of the front of the car?

nah from memory its on a slight angle to meet the gearbox. an idea in another thread is that i could have an auto crossmember. i will need to find some comparison pictures of auto/manual

nah it was originally auto. it seriously wouldnt surprise me if the last owner was dodgy about it and used the auto crossmember

When I put my short shifter into my vs ss I notice my gearbox is in the SAME position yours in (slighting more to the right). Though I did not think much of it? I just thought that's just how it was spose to be! :(

put the car on a hoist or axle stands as high as it will go and take a pic looking forward from under the fuel tank and then do the same thing from the front looking back. If it looks like there is a bend (left/right) in the driveline then there will be an issue. If everything is pointing straight up/down the car then maybe not.

It can't be factory position though, cause where Stocky's gb sits he wouldnt even be able to clip on the rubber cover (from gb to floor plate) on properly.
