Is the Ecotec motor from a VX "EXACTLY" identical to that from a VY?

I have a friend thats got a VX V6 thats been sitting in his garage for over 2 years. It has some electrical problem so he just never bothered to fix it.

He is willing to give me his engine and i was wondering. Is it exactly the same as the engine of a VY?

I read somewhere that the ecotec was "revised" for the VYs' and that it has 2-3kw more.

The 3 extra kw is no big deal but since its got that minor extra power, i am thinking that the motor has been changed, even if it was slightly.

Im concerned about the bottom end of the motor and not the heads or the intake manifold...just the block.

I noticed also that the casting on the block has GM 10 on it whereas the VYs block has GM 6.

So whats the deal guys...exactly same engines or not?

5kw gain was due to quicker ecu and egr. But yes its the same engine

I believe the egr came in the VT.
Also the VY has a different sump or it might have been from the VX series 2.

I also believe there was a change in the throttlebody at some point but this was something to use with a sensor shaft mounting or somethingblike that but the sensor works the same and it will plug in and work evennif the two motors have the different sensor

Different exhaust manifold on the vy on the left side and bigger sump but there is no difference that will stop it working in your car that I know of and the blocks and heads are all the same so need to worry at all.
