I just took out my IAC, how is it suppose to operate properly? Is it suppose to pull in & out, or spin completely? Or just the little washer part in the middle does the movement? Would like to know before bursons close :D thanks for any answers

Its a stepper motor, needs power to move, it shouldn't spin by hand

When U turn the ignition on U should hear it move and set itself.

One way is to create a vacuum leak (remove a vacuum hose) and observe the idle speed correction. You can also try blocking then unblocking the IAC valve port to the same end.

If you have cleaned the gears you should relubricate them with some light grease.

Other ways to test it are......
Turn the steering wheel on full lock. The IAC should increase the idle from the extra load on the engine from the power steering pump.
Or, turn on the A/C (and fan) and the idle should also adjust to compensate for the extra load from the compressor.

Or.....

It can spin, if you've ever pulled one apart you'll find outer is threaded onto the stepper spine, this isn't good though. About 2 weeks before my VP's IACV shat itself in the TB, I noticed it was spinning and therefore unscrewing. When it went, I had to use tweezers to get the tip and shaft out.

When mine shat it's self, the shaft shot out of the body like a bullet,:gun2: instead of a slow gentle step.

^ Mine broke like that too lol

Pretty cheap and easy to replace mate. Someone told me when you put a new one in you need to adjust it, like letting it idle in park for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes with the air cond on, then 10 minutes in drive, then 10 minutes in drive with air cond off, then turn it off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on
