Hey guys. Currently buying things for the reco head fix that im doing. As in replacing the heads in my car with reco ones as mine are screwed. -Heads -Radiator fluid -Oil - oil filter - thermostat and gasket - head gasket - head bolts - inlet manifold gasket - gasket sealant stuff is there anything im forgetting?
- Acetone, to clean & degrease your gasket surfaces. - Rags, - Kero (or Diesel) , to clean any reused parts (inside rocker covers etc)
Alright, Last question, anyone know a good reconditioning place that could give me reco heads before i rip the engine apart and then i give them mine. or is it best to just give them mine and wait a couple days while they do it? Whats a good place (West melbourne)
If the heads on your car are warped badly you might as well throw them in the bin man :/ apparently shaving down warped heads dont really help. (dont hold me to that, just what ive been reading up as i thought i had a blown headgasket thank god it turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket, well fingers crossed i havent started it yet.) if it was me i would just take your old ones in if they are not shagged and get them to reco it, but im sure somewhere would do a swap over deal. If your heads are knackered you could buy some from the wreckers and get them recoed?? What symptoms is your car giving mate to make you think its a blown head gasket?? just curious is all. My VT idled fine etc, drove fine just had milky oil and a bit of oil under the radiator cap i thought that was a blown head gasket but i think from seeing below you can see the culprit! bloody inlet manifolds!
Instead of buying individual gaskets get a price on a VRS kit. It,ll have all the gaskets you need and them some.
What makes you think the heads need a reco ? You will need a good tention wrentch and the degree gauge not in the west and not sure if he does change over units but highport cylinder heads is where I would go ain't proflow in Willy there ment to be good I think thats what there called.
Don't ya do the head bolts to pound setting then the final one is a degree setting been about 5 years since I helped with s head gasket change and I can remember the degree gauge but that might of been on something else.
Hmm I just check my Gregory's manual. It does say the second stage of tightening is +90 degrees. I would think that very close would be good enough. But I can't imagine they would cost much. So might as well.
Have you confirmed it's the heads that need fixing? Did you try to see if it was the piston rings and what not causing the low compression, in that one cylinder? Have you taken it to get a second opinion? How do you know the previous owner didn't get the heads already fixed?
