Italians celebrate on the 7th or 8th of January , technically jesus' real birthday , as the 25th Dec is the pagan winter solstice and not the americanised, comercialised, coca cola santa gift giving way. They gave gifts based on a witch instead of santa and mainly you where glad you got nothing coz if you were a pain of a kid you got coal. But it has crept into Italy .
That is correct and that is pretty much on all Latin communities. In Spain is that way too. The day is called the 3 Magic Kings day and is based on an estimated time of arrival of the 3 kings. They did not witness the birth but arrived a few days later; according to Theologists/Scholars. Watch any US TV garbage that talk about Christmas and the reason for it, you will be shocked at the lie that comes out. Is all commercial bull crap to sell you more crap that you do not really need. According to the Wikipedia... Santa Clause The modern figure of Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, which, in turn, has part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of Christian bishop and gift-giver Saint Nicholas. During the Christianization of Germanic Europe, this figure may have absorbed elements of the god Odin, who was associated with the Germanic pagan midwinter event of Yule and led the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession through the sky. Over time, traits of this character and the British folklore character Father Christmas merged to form the modern Santa Claus known today. Another fallacy, is to catalog Pagans as Satanists; simply because they are not Christian does not make them the devil's worshipers. During the conquest in America (Europeans) the clergy cataloged the native believes as some form of Satanist religion. Many Mayan books were burned that contained valuable information such as science and technology (science/tech of their civilization during their time period). Many natives were killed simply because they refused to convert. Social Media is as reliable as The Globe, National Enquirer, Star, National Examiner, Sun, Weekly World News, etc... The only people that I know that rely on those media outlets are the Men In Black (agent K calls it "Hot Sheets") Would you care to explain? I am not Australian
Hahahahahaha! Moderate? Yeah right! A room full of people who claim to no be extremists but have, and freely agree to extremist views. I hope Oxford are making some changes to the dictionary... Contradiction [kon-truh-dik-shuh n] E.g. "Moderate Muslim"
Humor is a funny thing; right? I have the impression that you like to "shoot from the hip" quiet often. Stated before few post back that I have a very sarcastic sense of humor; really enjoy dark comedy. If I have to explain it is not funny and was poking some fun at the Social Media. You said... Threw it back at it as Social Media = Supermarket Tabloid and I hope you know what Supermarket Tabloids are (that is why posted some links, just in case is called different). Anybody can post anything on Tweeter, Facebook, etc... The only difference, they are on electronic format and the other on paper. So is very naive to use Facebook and Tweeter (as examples) as "De Facto" News outlets. Social Media tracks your habits to spam you with stuff that "you like"; just to serve you better. That is how they make money with just pure and simple advertisement. Also tracks habits and trends, the information is sold to marketing agencies and they develop the right "strategy" for their ads. If someone enjoy reading and watching "anti/pro-whatever" posts most likely will be plowed with more of it; the system "thinks" that you "like it". People now days think (been told indirectly) Blogging is a form of professional journalism; is not even close. Just to show a bit of me. My dad was a District Manager for an importer company. He used to take me to see how they launched new products and noticed how the advertisement company pitched the idea. Is interesting the amount of study that goes into marketing a product. Is pure and simple the art of convincing/influencing someone (same with politics). Is like watching a magician explaining the tricks. Anybody noticed how Carnivals are; the "Carnies" they go to great length to pitch a game that seems easy but in reality is rigged. Social Media is the same exact thing; just different package.
Here is an example of Mass Hysteria... Lawmakers want U.S. to bar entry of West Africans over Ebola fears Now apply the same to Extremist/Radicals and so on... Here is a tidbit of info on an US Regulation (US Code 264). I know, is not Aussie Law but use ours as an Analog or let us say, a model of things to come. The very same mentality can be applied to anything. Disease or a Radical, still an "enemy". Here is some from the ECHR Again, that is the European Court of Human Rights. Does not affect Oz is in Europe; right? Now, how many time Oz has been sucked in on International affairs? WW I, II, what about just now? Sending some military aid to Syria.
Skydrol I don't have an opinion one way or the other on the bulk of your post, but I want to comment on this last statement you made. It's fair to say that Australia was "sucked in" to a number of conflicts during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but that was due to it either being a British colony, or heavily tied to Britain at the time. (Sudan, Boer War, Boxer Rebellion, WW I). Our involvement in WW 2 was different - whilst the question of whether we needed to be involved from the very beginning is debatable, it was more a case of politics and the government of the day being heavily pro- Empire, rather than being sucked in. Our involvement after December 1941 was completely different - we had no choice. Korea was a United Nations common objective, so we were involved as responsible UN members. America would obviously have had considerable influence in our involvement, but we still had occupation forces in Japan who were conveniently close at hand when Korea broke out, so off we went. Malaya in the mid 50's - again, we were already in Malaya and we assisted the British to deal with insurgent Communists. Vietnam? Perhaps our allegiance to the US was too strong and we became involved in a war that we shouldn't have, that went too long and actually failed to achieve the desired result. I'd agree that we were sucked in to that one. The current wars are different, because of the nature of the enemy. ISIS will spread its evil world wide and democracy and Western civilisation are the targets. If we don't take part now to deal with this disease, it will eventually attack us from within. Sucked in? Nope, not this time round.
This clip came from a US film in 1976 Here is a Canadian movie that came in 1980 No need to watch the whole thing but the 1st 21 minutes says a lot. Love to see the Porsche 917/30 Can-Am racer. That movie was the 1st one that I watched on a VCR back in the day. I thought back then that was a pretty cool Sci-Fi flick, his narration is pretty much what is going on today. They talk about an Epidemic, Military holding people in camps (due to disease), terrorist, hackers, vehicles confiscated because of pollution, gov surveillance. The movies came about 30+ years ago, try to understand what was the mind set back then. The main scare was Peak Oil and we were due for an Ace Age. Now, look so close to become reality. Yes, the goal was achieved if you look closely on what was about. The problem was, not enough and we need more of it. How good is your French (speaking on general terms to all)? Here is a French movie to see Paris 1919: Un traitรฉ pour la paix, mine is a bit rusty but good enough to understand. Has some parts in German and English due to the nature of the delegates (film accuracy). Is interesting how all ends. If you are patience enough and use one of the translator online, you can translate the French subtitles and get most of the movie. With enough diligence anybody can research the information and find out why things are the way are now. The UN is the re-branding of the European League Of Nations and moved to the US.
Here is General (Ret) Wesley Clark; former NATO Commander. This is how we are going to take the Middle East. Keep tag of the countries there are 7; and where we are now.
Oh no, we got pretty much all except for Sudan and Iran, we are just working now in Syria. We own Libya now, Muammar Gaddafi is gone AFRICOM is just down the road from Sudan in Djibouti. There was a ruckus with some tribes on the border with Sudan and South Sudan not long ago. We just droned their "Chinese" refinery to hell.
So you took the oil and ................................................................................
Here is what Muammar Gaddafi got in trouble for (Gold Dinar) Meddling with the forces of nature Mr Beal Here is a bit more, here IMF and here Gold-For-Oil Plan The IMF estimates that the bank has nearly 144 tons of gold in its vaults. In the months leading up to the UN resolution that allowed the US and its allies to send troops into Libya, Muammar al-Gaddafi was openly advocating the creation of a new currency that would rival the United States dollar and the Euro. Gaddafi called upon African and Muslim nations to join an alliance that would make this new currency, the gold dinar, their primary form of money and foreign exchange. They would sell oil and other resources to the US and the rest of the world only for gold dinars. Along with the uprising in Libya, international news channels on August/September 2011 brought several stories about Muammar Gaddafi's introduction of golden dinar[6] within his "gold-for-oil plan" [7] to possibly trade Libya oil on international markets
PRoC FTW! Christians sentenced to death in China for murder! AWESOME! Link Here I watched the murder online the day it happened and this is exactly what I was talking about earlier, when I quoted Steven Weinberg.
