Hello, I am after some advice. When I turn my VS off after driving for awhile, it won't start straight away. It is like it is starving for fuel. When I put my foot flat on the accelerator or pump it a few times, it will eventually splutter and start. Black smoke comes out the back. My fiance changed the injectors and put injector cleaner through buy it hasn't helped. The engine light also goes on and off while driving. I have also had this checked but there isn't any errors reading. Could the issue with the not starting have anything to do with the fuel regulator ? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks heaps.
definantly sounds like a fuel problem mate, especially after it starts its pumping out black fuel - check the basics like a blocked fuel filter?? then check fuel pressure and complete a process of elimination, eg fuses, relays, wiring, lines , pump , ( re-check injectors ) etc and see how you go. Fingers crossed. Another thing is get some throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body out while shes running blow it right through mate also check sensors etc.
It sounds like theres excess fuel getting into the engine and flooding it causing the black smoke and hard starting. If the injectors have been replaced, then its not gonna be a leaking injector, which usually is the cause of this problem, its likely to be the fuel pressure regulator leaking fuel into the inlet manifold through the vacuum lines.. Check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line for fuel, if theres fuel getting into this vac line, then replace the fuel pressure regulator. This is a fairly common problem, Ive ran into it a few times now on these cars.
There should be a fault code logged every time the engine light comes on AFAIK. Check it yourself with a paperclip: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...22307-checking-error-codes-vr-vs-revised.html You can check if the fuel pressure regulator is buggered by removing the vacuum hose to the regulator and checking if there is any fuel in the tubing - if there is it means the diaphragm in the regulator has split and is leaking fuel into the inlet manifold. This can cause the problem you have as when you turn the engine off, fuel pressure in the fuel lines forces fuel past the split in the regulator diaphragm and thru the vacuum tube into the inlet manifold. Then when you try and start the car it will not fire immediately as the plugs will be wet with fuel plus when it eventually starts it will blow black smoke from the excess unburnt fuel. Not sure why the engine light would be coming on but check the codes as mentioned. Good Luck.
went to mechanics and they said it is the crank angle sensor (CAS). When pulling up at the mechanics the car again wouldn't start so he poured a bucket of water over the harmonic balancer and the car started right away and apparently when it does that then it is the CAS. I have been quoted $200 to have it fixed, does anybody think that is about right ? Cheers
That price is good. Seems strange that it is the CAS....usually they will fail when driving once they get hot....I suppose that would explain the black smoke and difficult starting. Hopefully that is the solution to your problem. I figured fuel related but turns out ignition...can't win them all.
thanks for your advice though, I had no idea where to even start and you gave me a starting point, so I thank you for that. Being a female and not car savy, hence why I asked on this forum. Cheers
