there is a setting in the start up mode that you can change (after you start your car watch the LCD and press up or down to enter it then follow the prompts) , it says something like "lock doors in drive" and it locks the doors after a certain time or not at all, maybe your setting is on one of the time delays. for it not happening everytime, it could be that when a passanger door is opened and your door is closed before the passanger one is closed it doesnt do it? do you know what i mean? it just means holdens computer engineers didnt think of every possibility when autolocking in drive lol.

if its not that then im as stumped as you haha

let me know how it goes,

    cheers

I have the issue with the shudding power steering, i asked my mech about it, trust him enough, he said that there isn't anything wrong with the power steering and no work needs to be done... Ask anyway... SHould this be an issue that needs correcting, or can one bear with the embarassment of a shudding car?

It's perfectly safe, just annoying. You can replace the hoses with beefier ones to fix it, otherwise it's ok to just live it :)

Probably either castor/radius bushes, swaybar bushes, inner control arm bushes or the shock absorbers.

My sway bar bushes went at 110000km, radius bushes and inner control arm bushes at 115000km and shock absorbers at 125000km.

So sick of my VY2 SS. List of faults-
    Very noisy gearbox
Jumps out of third (6sp Man)
    Diff shudders at low speed
    Clutch very heavy
Clutch biting very low with only small travel
    Clutch very snatchey
drivers seat ripping at lumber support
    Idle is not very smooth
    Brakes juddering
Engine warning light keeps coming on
Purchased 1 yr ago with 125k now has 155K. Really disappointed with this car, can't sell it as I was ripped with the finance and price so I am stuck with this lemon for at least another 12 months. Worst car I have ever owned
Also have an XR6 Turbo, by contrast the best car I have ever owned.

My car is pinging or ticking after cam & head mods. Thinking of blue printing the motor and installing forged pistons plus changing springs and lifters. Will this get rid of the ping with a re-tune too?

    VY SS 2002
We brought a 2002 vy ss in nov 10 with 126,000 kms on it and have had nothing but trouble since start of jan this year.

We r the 3rd owners but the previous owners have got it serviced every 10,000 kms with holden and the last 1 being ultra tune (thinking that may b the problem?)

the engine light started coming on in dec, only once the car heated up and we never got around to getting it checked as i was due to have my 2nd baby after xmas.

The 1st week of me driving it the car was on 1/4 tank petrol and it just started dying on me on the fwy and i quickly pulled over n turned it off as it said low fuel but i couldnt put my foot down it just slowed n wouldve just ended up stopping.
So i got it filled back up n started fine (at that stage the engine light had never come on) so i learnt u pretty much cant let it go under a 1/2 tank or near 1/4 like my old **** box.

Then the engine light started showing up, once every few days or atleast once a week. Then just before i had my baby (31.12.10) it started coming up everytime we started the car.

Then on the 4th jan my partner said it started feeling abit sluggish n he turned it off and from then it never started. We rang racv n he came out n had a look n plugged it in but nothing came up saying it was wrong. He tried turning it over again n it sounded like it was firing wrong, so he said he didnt want to f it anymore and 2 get it towed 2 a mechanic which we did the next day.
The mechanic finally had a look at it and rang us to say that the motor had blew up (although my partner had told him if u turn it too much u'll f it more)
he finally found the problem an injector was staying open and had blown a hole in the sump (great just what we wanted to hear)
we got a 2nd hand motor from a 04 ss with 70,000kms on it got it put in 2 wks later had our car back!!

Now 6wks later i started hearing a noise at the back when i put my foot down, like a jet taking off. Had the wheel bearings checked - not them! Changed the tyres with my partners vl ones - the noise still there.
Then my partner checked the diff oil and there was some metallic **** in it, so now what should we do?? He's gonna change the diff oil but i bet the noise is still there knowing our luck!! So whats next a new diff?? Or a re built 1?

I feel like ringing the dick head up we brought the car off n having a go at him as the thing has cost us 2 much $$ in 4mths!! Its stupid, the thing is a lemon!!

Oh n the battery went when we picked the car up after the motor got done!!

Some imput would b good bout this new noise, thanks

Pinging/pinking surely is either too little fuel or too much ignition advance so it should be possible to tune it out. Don't discount the possibility of an airleak after the MAF or the wrong sparkplugs (too hot).

I'd love to know how a sticky injector can blow a hole in the sump - that's like saying a dripping tap in the kitchen caused a bedroom window to crack, it makes no sense. Sounds to me as if the mechanic buggered something up.

Hi there, I have a VY2 03 dual fuel. (factory fitted ex-detective car). She no longer starts up in LPG since the gas attendant fulled it. With small bang sound and gas leaking out. I asked what was that? He said he didn't know and continued fulling up... So it only starts on petrol, switches to LPG and runs ok but doesn't start anymore

I'm no expert, but i was under the impression that the factory system isn't designed to start on LPG. Rather it should always start on petrol, then switch over once warmed up.

    I suspect I have a blown head gasket on my V6 VY. Here is what has happened;
    * Overheated quickly whist driving it. Temp came back down as soon as I backed it off (very quick rise & drop in temp).
    * Checked the belt - OK. Checked oil - Clean, not milky. * Checked coolant - A bit brown, but level was ok, all hoses ok. There were signs of heat though, spray over one side of the engine.
    * Then the temp was normal and stayed normal. Motor running well & no problems. Until 2 days later, same problem.
    * Noticed some oil residue under the bonnet. Coolant seems oilly. Took off radiator cap & started engine - bubbling out the radiator cap. Stoped the motor and pushed the car into the garage. Engine oil is still clean.
    * Finally, engine oil level doesn't seem to have altered.

Any advise? Feel free to reply. Also, if you are thinking a blown head gasket, any ideas on diagnosing which head gasket has blown? There was a mess on only one side of the engine.

Yea that is the same problem i had with my supercharged vy calais 03 model,
It used to over heat in the same way as yours. Firstly what i got done was, All the pipes that run from the radiator to the thermostat was replaced and i got a brand new radiator fit into the car. I got the thermostat cleaned aswell as a new gasket for it. It was a pain in the arse to get to the thermostat my self because it was behind the supercharger and almost under it!, Before i got all this done i had Bubbling when you start the car with the radiator cap off. People say that your head is cracked due to the bubbling, but i do not believe this is true because after i got all this replaced i had no bubbling and absolutely no over heating! was such a relief when i got rid of the overheating problem. I think your radiator is blocked aswell as your thermostat is most probably full of mud.
Most Positive your Head gasket is Not cracked, because you pulled over as soon as it happened and you didn't continue driving.
I just recommend you replacing your radiator and all its pipes. and get your thermostat cleaned.
I took mine to a radiator specialist and he done it all for $700. if you need anymore help or info on this, just Reply on this post or just Pm me.

    Thanks, Turb0Trk.
