The Biggest size resonator and mufflers you can fit

You want volume in the muffler and resonators, the bigger the volume the less drone, bigger inlet/outlet pipes will give more volume

There isn't enough volume in a hotdog style muffler to do much to reduce the frequency the causes drone

Marriage savers are very hit and miss, hence why you see used items for sale
Great post, I've preached the exact same thing for years, yet very few listen!
Simply rolling up a 9" round cannister muffler that'll fit in the rear of a VE/VF and the droning problem is solved!

Not a hot dog, a resonator, typically a big difference in sound and quality

What size exhaust is currently on the car?

Before anything you need to work out how big of an exhaust you actually need, going to big has its drawbacks

If your not making, or planning to make more than 500hpatw, a twin 2.5" system would probably be better

If your motor is fairly stock and your running your stock exhaust it should be fine, with the only modification really needed a couple of good big bodied straight through rear "mufflers" at the back for some added noise, you could even still use your OEM tips if that's your thing

You can get straight through offset 1 in to 2 out, and then fit the OEM tips, or go a 1 in to 1 out and fit whatever tip floats your boat

You should pop into your local custom exhaust shop and ask them about what you want, they can point in a better direction

Don't hit up your local shop though if they only deal with Joe Average, you need to find a shop that builds custom exhaust, they have most likely built 1000''s of exhausts like what you want, tell them your budget and that you don't want any drone, also tell them how loud you want it to be

They may just replace the rear boxes like I mentioned, again, dependant on your budget

The difference between a prefab brand name exhaust is usually chalk and cheese in both price, and sound quality

Support your local businesses
Thanks ,, 2.5 stock with stock motor , likely do headers and OTR , Tune next year
Local exhaust is prob 4-5 hours drive from here in the sticks in SA

Maybe a DPE with Bi Modals or also MagnaFlow 3inch been suggested

Def getting closer on choice

Thinking 3inch with large resonators , H Pipe ,and Bi Modals with Smart Box ,

Appreciate the time spent and info forwarded

3" is usable for supercharged engines or wildly modified NA engines that'll make 600+hp, V8 Supercar engines for example. There wouldn't be too many NA LS3's on the road with the horsepower to use a 3" exhaust and most of it is the "bigger is better mentality". Same goes for 1 7/8" headers used on a 900hp 410 sprint car engine turning 8700rpm, we need them on an NA LS3 with a cam and intake, seriously?

Unless an engine is supercharged, I personally use the scavenging, torque advantage and greater potential to minimise drone with 1 3/4" headers preferably Tri-y's and 2.5" exhausts on LS engine road cars.

Ironically I got less drone and more note separation going from REX 1 3/4 headers to DPE 1 7/8

Header configuration can alter the exhaust note, primary length and whether or not they're equal length, collector design and most of all cat setup, but a change in primary diameter on the same configuration header typically doesn't do much to the note or drone potential.
