Just imagine the Gillard office after that little gem was handed down. If she was ropeable over the newspaper article on the weekend surely this would have set new highs (lows??). According to Sky News the High Court has endorsed Naru as a destination. The Liberal party will have a field day

Predicting Gillards next conversation after yet another policy failure.

Journalist: Prime Minister, what are the implications of the High Court decision?
PM: Mr Rabbit is a disgrace, he will bring back workchoices
J: But PM, where does the government go now after this decision?
PM: Be very afraid, if the Liberals win government they will bring back workchoices.
J: But PM, you must agree that the High Court decision is a setback for your government and you personally.
PM: Well that’s nothing compared to to Mr Rabbit bringing back workchoices.

    Ok - enough is enough....

Back-pay rort triggered $15,000 union refund | Herald Sun

This guy really should do the right thing and quit.

In light of events with *every* single thing our current government touches turning to **** over the last 4 years and more specifically last 12 months, Gillard should put the country above personal pride and call a general election. I cannot think of one single policy success with this government. Call an election, pre-select some new blood into the ALP and give Australia a fighting chance.

    I don't get it.

I thought our government was the law maker with the court being in charge of determining if actions of determining if actions are within them or not. So Gillard is saying that Herself and her government being the law makers don't understand the laws they are charged with administering??? We aren't talking about a minor technicality here. This is a major policy decision that has been derailed faster than a "P" plater persecution thread on JC.

these aren't laws like the road rules, that give explicit instructions. they require interpretation. in the end, it's a high court judge who has the final say. what's not debatable is that this leaves the Gillard govt in no man's land once again, she is definitely on the rocks.

Was reading articles on the train, this is the end of Labor.

Infighting turns heat up on PM

Gillard attacking a justice of the High Court, Labor has turned to a pack of rabid dogs snapping and fighting with eachother and thanks to Labor they may have even ####ed up any chance for future offshore processing.

    Meanwhile,

    Travel discount proves alluring

Business for the people smugglers is SO good thanks to Labor they are able to offer discounts and special "go now, pay later" deals. Business is booming for people smugglers and rest I can't wait to see the influx of boats thanks to this Labor #### up.

    In other news,

Steep rise in strikes as Abbott joins fight

Labor's work relations policies are clearly working well. With no fear of individuals being held accountable or fired, industrial actions are the highest since when we had Howard and his WorkChoices laws which put industrial action muppets in their place.

    Finally,

Liberal senator asked 'how to avoid' theft charges

That is dsigraceful. She should be dropped form her position immediately. I absolutely despise people like this. Stealing not because they HAVE to but simply because she didn't feel like paying.

    ####ing cow.

Not long after it happened she played the depression card. Wonder if that will be raised again.

I am in a massive lulz at rumours labor are talking about bringing back Kevin. I mean, I thought they would want to improve their name? Simon Crean is without a doubt their best bet.

Just another ex ACTU hack, but preferable to the rest.

    Perhaps Smith?

Unfortunately there will always be individuals who will exploit whatever the law is at the time. Those who will take advantage of their employers and employers who will exploit their employees. The balance is probably impossibly to attain.

    Agreed!

I agree. Boring to the "emotional" faithful, but at least steady, predictable and dependable.

They cant go back to Rudd... Thats a free kick for the Liberals. Labor dumped him because it was going down the toilet...now they bring him back to flush? They have to go with someone new.

I doubt that. NOBODY could be worse than Gillard. She will go down in Australian political history as the very worst, most inept Prime Minister ever.

I heard on the radio they were even looking at Peter Beattie to lead the party because he has never lost an election.

Yeah, Beattie handed over to Anna Bligh to avoid loosing an election.

You know its getting bad when MPs are coming out to support her - its Rudd all over again.

You never know, could be a change of leader on the weekend. And would it be too much to ask that Swan the dill get booted as well?

Seriously no one in their right mind would put their hand up now. Not if they were interested in a long term career in politics. It is a poison chalice.

In other news, I really love when politicians tell me what I am thinking.

Cabinet minister Craig Emerson described Ms Gillard as "a strong leader", saying that was what Australians wanted.
"They expect leaders to make tough decisions even if those decisions aren't always popular in the short term," he told ABC Radio this morning.
