Ever since I bought this car its been jerking at low RPM. Not quite sure if it happens whilst accelerating or decelerating but it's in between 1000 - 2000 RPM.

The car has done 97000 and the engine light comes only sometimes.
Could this be the timing chain? I'm not sure if it's only the timing belt that needs to be changed at 100k or both.

I want to eliminate each possible cause - the ones I can do myself like the spark plugs and fuel injectors shouldn't be a problem.

Also could it be the transmission?

does it happen under light acceleration or when you give it plenty of pedal?

Buy an obd scanner and you'll see what engine fault code is active.

++11 for scanner, it should have a pending fault in code history, wear in the butterfly on the throttle body, service transmission

VEs have a timing chain, not a belt. There's a sticky post on the subject.

They are cheap to buy at supercheap. I got one from them for about $70 since I have been having engine check engine light come on. It saves having to pay holden $120 for nothing.
