Iv had my VT for 3 months now it came with 72,412kms on it and i have jst hit 79,000kms today. Its a manual exec 100% stock. when i first bought the car it was a bit sluggish and idled a bit rough. also the gear box was very noisy and a bit cluncky espesially when going from 1st to 2nd (shifting not hard jst normally). I have only ever put 98BP in her and i have noticed the car feels a bit quicker and is very smooth i am also getting 10L per 100kms in the city and i give it a squirt from most lights. the gearbox is sooo much smoother now and harldy clunks into either gear. Does anyone think the premium petrol has cleaned out my engine and thats the reason for it being quieter? i cant work out y the gearbox is getting BETTER, the previous owner was a 60yr old bloke from the riverland so it wasnt thrashed. im not complaining but jst curious as to y the car is running soo much better as the kays get higher. any suggestions would be nice cheers
Have you got the Gear box serviced since you got the car, cause i know mine was clunky when i first got it, until i changed the gear box oil, and gave it a service etc ??
i had the engine serviced, new plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil, ratiator flush, engine flush, and tune all the usual, but the gearbox oil and diff oil was jst checked and i was told it was all good.
Yes, your car is thanking you for using the good fuel. Because you say the person you bought it from was an old bloke, he prolly never upped it, its a known fact that Holdens respond to a good boot full now and then, the car would have been running normal old unleaded, prolly never driven, all the valves covered in varnish and when you hopped in and started driving it properly it has cleaned the engine. Of course the service you have performed helped this along, if you keep regularly servicing the car and running premium you will find your car will be as best as it can be. As for the GB side of things, maybe the GB didnt like the old blokes driving style and wasn't doing it any good, and now you've gave it a shaken up she is more lenient on the changes.
Ive run BP Ultimate for nearly a year now and it has defiently helped to make my engine run smoother and feel quicker.
thanks for the comments guys, im going to service it every 7000kms that should be ok. i bought some stuff today actually. Castrol magnatec 10W40 V06 Oil Filter NGK spark plugs Im also going to put some "MOREY'S oil stabilizer in this service. anyone used this b4 its basically a good lubricant
I don't add anything to my oil, never have. I just buy the good oil, then I dont need to add extra lubricants. I did buy a bottle of nulon oil flush last time, worked a treat, ran it through and it cleaned my rockers like madness, took off the rocker cover and they were golden, like they should be! But thats different to what your talking about.
Nulon engine oil flush works a treat, I love the stuff. As for oil additives, I have used them in the past, but if you buy a good quality oil you don't really need them. As for the oil changes I like to do them after a certain time, not a certain amount of kilometres, because it is the cold starts that kill the oil.
i seem to be doing about 7000kms per 3 months. there are a fair few cold starts in there to. when i drop the oil ill check how it looks and mayeb i can let it go a bit longer
I think the ECU learns your driving style and adapts to it. My VS when I got was an absolute pig, after a week of pretty much hard driving she is all sweet!!!!
