    Hey guys,
normally when I do long distance driving...like highways, etc, my vy's fuel consumption sits on, at best,
    8.4l/100kms...
or when i take it easy around town it sits on about that maybe moves up to like 8.6l...
but just recently I changed fuel filter, started running it on premium, cleaned the throttle body
    and cleaned the injectors.
now at best I can get her to sit on 7.4l/100kms...
is that normal?? because I've never seen it so low is all...
    thanks,
    kc :)

When i first got my VX, I Stuggled to get 600kms to a tank. So I Did a full service, GM Fuel Filter, GM Air Filter, 10-30 OIL, GM Plugs, GM Leads, GM Oil Filter. Be Sure you dont have your lights on all the time.
I now get 700kms to a tank. I Found the GM plugs the best, I tried Bosch plugs and lost 100kms to a tank, no idea why. Also found running your lights all the time looses 100kms to a tank also.
Once all done just be easy on the throttle, i rarely go over 2500rpm. unless i need to boot it to merge over.

Something is seriously wrong electrically if your headlights make your fuel consumption increase by 16%. Running the air con might cause an increase like that, but not something like the headlights that only draws ~100Watts.

I run my headlights and aircon all the time and get 680kms (11L/100km~) from a tank. On the freeway it sits on about 7L/100km which would be about 1000kms to a tank.

Yeah Im not sure mate, Its just something i noticed but a guy with a new lancer at work did the same and said it took about 80kms off his tank having them always on. Might have been a week that i was more heavy footed, but it does affect it.

I have a mafless tuned SS and I'm sitting on 12.6L/100kms. I live in St Kilda (Vic) too so it's not like I'm always on highways.. Highest mine will go is 15L/100kms and that's when I'm punching it everywhere... 7.4L/100kms is friggen awesome dude.. And as for this headlight thing everyone is talking about.. I have HIDs and am a Friday night cruiser and I don't lose anything out of my tank.. Being a sparky too I highly doubt you'd be losing that much fuel from your headlights! Air con I could relate to but not headlights........

 That's one of the funniest things I've ever read on this forum. Driving with your headlights on will do SFA to your fuel consumption. Best you don't turn your stereo volume up over 3 as you won't make it to the next servo.....

Righto, GO Try it your Self, Its what i found in the VX, THe VR, and a Mate at work with his 2010 Lancer,
Ranging between 50-100kms to a tank lost them being on all the time.
And Why is Volvo using energy efficient head lights ? cause running lights does affect it.
Do a test, Have at car at idle, then switch your lights on, listen to the tune change to the engine.

i only get 400kms out of a full tank but its all town driving..

in my VR i did a test like that but it was more of like lets see how long it would take to drain our battery at idle (so we could run air con) after like 45min car just jumped up to 1000rpm for a little while then dropped

I do drive with my headlights on quite often and no, it doesn't affect my fuel economy. When I start my car then turn on the lights, no, there's no change in the 'tune of the engine'. My scan gauge doesn't even show a change in anything whilst the car is idling or at speed. I've also noticed no change in fuel economy in my Hilux 4wd or any other of our company fleet vehicles, ranging from povo Omegas, SV6 (SIDI & Non SIDI), Wagons and sedans, SSs, povo Falcons through to T6s. Our company policy is to drive with headlights on (as a safety measure). I've never once noticed reduced economy due to having headlights on.

Oh, and I just looked up about Volvo using more efficient headlights. They're talking about light and life efficiency, nothing to do with fuel economy.

Mate trust me, There is no way headlights can decrease the amount of fuel you get out of the tank.. They don't draw anything near enough to be able to do that... As wikky said.. If that was the case you wouldn't be able to turn your stereo up past 3 because the stereo draws so much more! All these new cars that have day running lamps would surely be affected too? Like I also said in my previous comment, I have HIDs and spotties, and I do a lot of cruising with friends at night time with both the HIDs and spotties on.. And don't lose anything out of my tank..

Edals, if having the headlights on all the time affects your fuel consumption, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with your alternator, battery or entire electrical system.

Either that or you are consistantly ruining the validity of your testing by flat-footing it with them on, while driving like a granny with them off.

Last I remember, only the engine had injectors, not the headlights.

Just what i found with 2 different commodores, and a work mate with a brand new lancer. Just thought i would mention it.
And no i dont flog my VX, I rarely go over 2300 RPM, the Mrs has found the same in her VR, and my work mate is the last person to rev a car.
So believe or don't, like anything

Last time im going to post this, MY VX, MRS VR, WORK MATES 2010 LANCER with 12k on it. All effected by running headlights all the time. All between 50-100.
3 different cars. So i dont know if the lights cause drag or what here, but out of 3 cars, we all found it was effected by it. By 3 different drivers. over a few tanks to check if it was just fuel, when we all run 95 in them. All running the same freeway routs every day.

Why post if you don't want the right feedback? You have people that KNOW about cars here telling you that it is IMPOSSIBLE to lose 50 - 100kms out of your tank just from your headlights unless you have an alternator problem yet you persist on telling us about other people and their cars having the same issue.. The only way your headlights can possibly reduce the kms you get out of your tank is if you have an electrical fault, or if you have the wrong size pulley charging your alternator forcing it to work harder/chew more juice, and even then losing 50-100kms is extreme mate.

Im Not having a go, Its just what 3 of us have found while running the cars with headlights on.
I Dont know what the go is, Its what we have found, 3 different cars, 3 different people, everyone can have a say. Just having a extra 110 watts of extra drain thats all. Could be a matter of things that have caused it while we tested it. Just like having a polished car can benefit fuel eco. people will say thats a load of crap, others say not. like anything. I posted it saying its what we have found to increase fuel/kms a tank. As for the alternator, mine was recently rebuilt and was same before and after, so i dunno. Same with the VR. Everything on the cars are OEM parts, no performance changes not even plugs or leads.
