Hey people I have bought a nice white VS from a mate thats done bugger all km's and is mostly in mint condition apart from a small front end smash from someone backing into it, nothing I can't bang out and respray myself, but thats not the problem. First of all, I'm not used to working on newer cars, loved tinkering around on my oldies but this is alot more technical then what I'm used to - anywho....

I drove it around for awhile and it sounds great, he was an auto elec and heavily modified some of it, but he's in England now and is unable to help - I'd rather have a go at it myself anyway...The right back blinker blew the week I bought it, then the wipers seemed to move very shaky like they were caught on something, then just stopped working, my question is I replaced all fuses, and it's still happening, do I need to replace the blinker bulb in order to get the wipers to work, or is it more likely that wiper motor is gone?

It just seems odd to have to fix a blinker bulb to get the wipers to work, although looking at the fuse box they seem to be on the same relay... If anyone can shed a little light on that it would be great...

Also another odd problem is that sometimes it likes to start in Neutral instead of Park... why would that be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

The start in neutral only means the selector needs adjusting (simple from underneath))
Wipers and blinker - try swapping the relay for another similar sized one as it may be failing. If as you say the previous owner heavily modified the electrics then there could be a few cable going where they normally wouldn't so you may have a bit of fun with that.
    Good Luck

It's been a while since I've looked at a VS up close but I'm pretty sure the neutral start (crank) is normal :) .

The indicator not working most likely is just a globe. The easiest check is to swap it with one from the other side (that you know works) or just guess for the cost of the globe. One extra as a spare will be useful eventually anyway if it's not the problem.

It's a common problem for the wiper linkage to fail. Can the wipers be moved as if they aren't connected to anything and can you hear the wiper motor working with them switched on? (A new linkage is ~$50 from a holden spare parts store).

On my on the way up to Mount Gambier a few years ago for a car show, I used my wipers and they worked but were very jittery. It did this about 4 times then just quit on me. I didn't think anything of it till I went to use my indicator. It had blown a fuse (they use the same fuse). I replaced the fuse and then went to use the indicator again and it had blown the fuse again. I think the wipers weren't all the way down and as soon as I replaced the fuse it would blow. I disconnected the wiper motor so I could use my indicators and replaced the fuse when I got up there. So when I got back home I replaced the wiper motor (was burnt out cos there was a rubber stopper that they use them from factory to located the window properly) was in the way and the motor was pushing against it.

So, replace the wiper motor and you should be fine.
