I've just inherited a 2008 VE Clubsport and as ignorant as can be about some of the modifications made. On the key ring there's a separate switch to change the volume of the exhaust. It has letters A and B on it. This switch thing was installed as the previous owner was having trouble with neighbours being woken by the car in the mornings. I like leaving it on loud but I'm scared the car will get a defect notice. How do I find out if the car is loud enough to be defected? Also this might be a dumb question but if I keep it on loud will the car be using more fuel? Also does the fact that the car is supercharged mean that it uses more fuel as a result. My brother says that I'm the problem as I don't drive the car properly. I'm not getting that many klms per tank. I'm assuming that's the flip side of driving such a beautiful car.
Second silly question of the night How do I go about selling my 2008 supercharged VE Clubsport that has very low kilometres and is in perfect condition . Also has new rims etc. How do I go about putting a price on my car if I decide to sell it. If I keep it will the resell value drop dramatically over the next few years seeing that it has probably had a dramatic drop - like all cars- in the first few years of life? In other words I'm reluctant to sell it at the moment for sentimental reasons. If I was just to hold onto it for another year would I be losing much by doing so? Any words of wisdom appreciated. To put it even more bluntly. What would you want your wife to do with your very much loved car if you were to pass away?
www.carsales.com.au www.redbook.com.au Yes, all cars depreciate unless they are rare collectables Then don't. How long is a piece of string? Being female I have no wife, however I wouldn't give a **** what happened to it, I am dead and gone so the person who inherits it can do what they want with it.
As long as it was used to drop a massive skid at my funeral.. After that I'm sure I wouldn't care too much what happened to it.. However if the car has sentimental value to you.. Keep it.. It's not going to be worth anything to a collector.. But it may be worth something to you personally..
May be worth more just giving it to another male family member who would drive it like its meant to be driven and look after it like he should. Then you get to 'keep' it and the good memories too.
Look, just to give you peace of mind, I will clean swap you with my 2007 GTS. That way, the noise, and fuel economy wont be as big of a problem. I think I can manage to put up with it:smoking: Seriously, they wont be a collectors car, and they depreciate quicker than the Aussie economy, so just drive it and enjoy until you decide what you want to do. I am sure your departed loved one wont hold it against you what ever you decide.
Keep it. Every male put alittle bit of himself into his vehicle. If you're having a hard time around it, memories etc, then pass it on to a different family member. Otherwise, cherish it. It was his passion, so honor that by not flogging it off.
You've got a Varex unit at the end of your exhaust. No. The fact that it's supercharged might have something to do with your consumption though. You're also probably better leaving it on loud and only using quiet when you have to. My S14 doesn't boost properly when I have mine shut. I'm not sure if having it shut for long periods of time has any effect on anything, but I only use mine when I have to. Yes. Supercharger = belt driven from engine, which has a parasitic effect. It's a V8 anyway, those things use heaps of fuel even without a charger. Maybe you should get a daily.
I really feel the best option is to give it to me. I'll take good care of it. But seriously, throw it on carsales. Best option. Heavily modified cars are usually difficult to shift as normal people don't want them, and car nuts avoid as we like to know the hisotry and in's and outs of our cars. That or pass it on to someone in tha family for a ggood price. Though my first suggestion is still an option.
Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I will know when it's time to either sell the car or keep it. Posted that thread last night and today my 21 yr old son was accepted into a Paramedics course in Bathurst. Looks like I'm borderline with the Means Test for him to get the Youth allowance.Accomodation alone is $10,000 per year on campus and I don't think there will be an abundance of jobs available to help him pay his way. Looks like 'Goodbye Clubsport'. An after thought Is there a reliable way of testing the cars decibel level. I'd hate to get a defect notice.
You need a decibal meter.. You can download dodgey ones on the iPhone.. Or you can find someone with one and borrow it.. Got any mates who are safety officers?
I guarantee 100% that your exhaust is too loud. I have a standard system on my car and it registers at 88 decibels... the legal limit is 90.
If I get pulled over and it is too loud and I get a defect notice what would I be required to do? Would it involve a great deal of money to adjust it back? Does this problem occur on a regular basis? I mean cars being pulled over at random? For instance I'm a placid looking 60 yr old. If I were to be pulled over would pleading ignorance and a promise to keep it on the quiet level get me by? My daily is a 2012 Titanium Ford Focus. Another beaut car to drive. I drive towards the city in the Focus and away from it in the Clubsport. Wish I was rolling in $$$ as then it wouldn't be a problem.
If you get defected you have three options: 1) fix the problem and get the defect cleared.. 2) unregister the vehicle.. 3) sell the vehicle to a car yard.. Now not sure about your state but I know most states don't allow a private sale of a defected vehicle.. Also in your case. Getting defected and having a supercharger on the vehicle, could be alot more of a headache then its worth (unless its mod plated).. However there are plenty of us who drive around ridiculously noisy ars and haven't had a problem with the police.. Driving sensibly, not going to hoon spots etc, all seem to work for me.
Depends on the mood of the person pulling you over, but they would probably defect you for the supercharger as well.
If you're that concerned about the noise, take it to an exhaust shop and get them to put a muffler in it. I'd be more worried about getting defected with a super charger.
I know I sound very ignorant-my husband did this deliberately to ensure 1 I was too scared to drive his pride and joy and 2 I was kept unaware of how much he was spending on the modifications when he 'disappeared' to talk to 'people' about his baby. It's only when I needed to go through his paperwork I discovered the receipts. My husband loved the secrecy and I wouldn't have cared how much of his money he spent on it. It was worth every cent seeing him so happy. So you guys have already educated me. I thought it was just the exhaust making the rumblings as the supercharged bit is definitely too tech for me to understand. Just know it has 1.Falken rims 2.Xforce 3"m/steel cat back s/sheaders and hi flow cats. 3.billet aero shifter 4.Custom Camshaft 5.Xforce Varex rear mufflers 6.Magnuson 1900 supercharger 7.60 Pound Deka injectors. Looking at the receipts I guess he just might have put most of his wages into this car! I can only smile as he was a great husband who worked very hard.deserved the pleasure this care gave him. Might I add the installations are meaningless to me-I'm totally ignorant. Know what the rims are and exhaust but the rest is Dutch to me. I think it's got about 20-25 kms on the clock. Any idea of roughly what I could expect to get for it.iit's in showroom condition. He cleaned it thoroughly each week and vacuumed it every day. Yes it was his baby.
