As has been said you compared the floatiest spec (Calais) against notoriously firm riding Msport Beemers, which cost twice as much.
Did you try an SS/Redline?

As has also been said, these threads tend to get derailed, as both camps (ZB owners/never ZB owners) have distinct points of view.
Generally boils down to:
Yes - the ZB is good value, well specced, drives nice enough
No - its not a "proper" commodore, isn't properly quick, isn't Australian
