Hi there all....

Just purchased the Sony CDXR 5810, the problem I am having is my speakers are cutting out at high volume.....

The Sony unit replaces a sanyo unit, with the sanyo unit I had no problems at all.....

However with the sony unit I turn the volume up above 25 and when the bass comes through from the sub keeps going but the speakers cut out.....

Everything is running off amps....very frustrating considering it was all working fine before i changed the unit......:ranting:

Any help will be greatly appreciated......cheers

might want to check your RCA connections at the back of the HU

some had desks have separate output volumes, ie: front/rear/RCA etc... you may just need to adjust these or amp volumes..

sounds a lot like the amp driving the speakers is going into protection mode. This could be due to thermal overload (its getting too hot) or voltage drop. Voltage drop is probably more likely and could be due to a bad earth or wiring being too thin. Much more likely to be a bad earth.

I have also seen this occur when the impedance of the load on the amp was too low. This causes the amp to go into protection mode at high volume.

When you replaced the head unit, did you retune the amps? The gain settings will most likely need to be changed to get them to run properly. It sounds like you're driving the speakers way past their limits, and the amps are shutting them down to prevent blowing them up.

Just a thought.

to expand was the h/u replaced a 4V preout and the sony a 2V preout?
here should not be a huge difference in the strength of the h/u rca signal, not enough to make the amp go into protection mode unless you had set your gains at their very limits.

I didnt think that clipping on the preamp side of an amp could cause it to go into protection mode. I was under the impression that only a problem with the power supply or the output stage could cause this? I may be wrong though
