Looks like the Kayhan unit will go the same way the Alpine unit did - discontinued, people pulling them out...
What's this? I've obviously missed something, the Alpine X901D-VF is being discontinued?
What problems are people having with them, apart from lack of full HUD integration of course?

I have been waiting on reviews such as this before deciding on what system to replace the Mylink with. So thanks Stooge for taking one for the team.

Why don’t you take up Kayhan’s offer a post a review on their FB page? I am sure that there are many others out there waiting for first hand experiences as well before parting with their money.

I was also ready to pull the trigger on the Alpine as well but fortunately stumbled upon a FB page and there were many references to a new updated unit being released sometime in the future. So eagerly waiting for that.

i am removing the kayhan unit and putting the mylink back in.
it is annoying having the kayhan unit.

I personally would also go for a full replacement unit over an addon. The only exception to that is for the HSV owners which have the factory EDI fitted which cannot be retrofitted to the Kayhan units due to the complexity of the connections.

Thats just a personal preference though!

@stooge... more than welcome to help work on making the newer radio systems work in VFs.

Actually, i might have confused the Alpine with the AdvancedICE unit. Sorry folks!

That said, i wouldn't want the Alpine either, $3K is just way too much & no carplay. Unless the supposed 902 update has it and is much cheaper.

I'd pay say up to $2k for an updated Alpine unit with Carplay...

If they released an "OCD edition" with full functionality and absolutely no issues/problems, I would too at $2K. Such a thing might just be a pipe dream tho. Hopefully Tazzl can get the ZB unit working without any issues, and significantly cheaper...

yes, but i believe there is a 902 or something in the works which will support carplay etc
Oooh!
Now that's interdasting …
I doubt my better half would let me mess with her car though; while the concept of the maps being so out of date annoys me, in reality it's not affected us in any way.
And it's been long enough since VF's release that Alpine might have R&D'd full SatNav+HUD integration (although I kinda doubt it - it seems these are universal units & only the fascias/externals vary between the cars they're designed to fit).

Thank you for the info. I will be giving it a big miss. $1,000 + extras for flawed system to replace an outdated but functional system...

i keep forgetting to post these pictures so i figure i will post them now i remembered lol

i noticed there is a adjustment screw in a hole on the back of the screen for the brightness but it does not seem to work very well as the picture gets "washed out" when you turn it up too much but it is worth a mention for others to try if they have issues with brightness.

i took some pics of the inside of the kayhan unit and i found there was a plastic coating left on one of the heatsinks for cooling which would cause issues and the cpu cooler is pretty crap because there is no active cooling(fan) like the mylink.
the heatsink for the cpu is pretty crap and it will be interesting to see how the unit works on a 35 deg day after the vehicle is parked in the sun for a few hours.
there is a micro usb port on the android mainboard so that could be used to flash custom recovery/root.
one of the pics shows the super advanced "knot in usb cable" stopper lol.
