My door wont lock and when my key is in the ignition with the motor running i can pull the key straight out, so im guessing i need a new ignition barrel and door lock but here my question
if i goto the wrecker and get another ignition barrel and door lock and change/swap the remote part over will everything work ok and be fine or does the key have to be coded etc to match the rest of the car?

    yep that would be fine.

as long as you keep the same remote part of the key, it'll all be fine.

so you are going to replace a known weak part with another that has unknown wear rom the wreckers.
You must love pulling things apart more than once, new barrels and re-coding won't cost much and will give you peace of mind for many years

I did mine last year $85 for barrel and $25 for locksmith to re-code the barrel. I would check another dealership on prices. also you are only doing the key and barrel not the remote fob. If you do the remote fob, one from the wreckers won't work

you're getting jibbed on price. local locksmith here buys genuine holden ignition barrels with no key coding, matches them to your existing key (so you dont have to replace your door lock) for well under $200 from memory (i had mine done probably 10 months ago, and i cant remember how much i paid), and about a half day with you not having a car.

im in Goulburn, and Goulburn Locksmith was where i got mine done, if you live "near canberra" it'll still save you money to drive down here and get it done.
