I got a quote of 55 bucks to cut a new key and 90 to code it. Am I being taken for a ride? I was pretty sure coding was a piece of piss. Anyone? Bueller?
Firstly the transponder needs to be coded then the remote buttons. You need at least 2 keys to do this and both must be reprogrammed. Security access needs to be gained online as well. Going by average dealership hourly rates $90 is about right. Ive personally taken VE keys to be cut at a locksmith and theyve charged $50 per key so thats about right as well.
I got the key cut today and the dude could only code it to get the car started but the remote buttons don't work. He said to take it to the local rip off shop (dealer). This really sucks balls as the dealer here will want te car for a whole day as Rey are unless wankers.
I hope so... last time I had a 30 second warranty job (replace a turret mould on the roof of my VZ ute) they wanted the car for the day. After 5 minutes of arguing I went and bought the part myself which literally took me longer to take it out of the plastic than it did to put it on.
30 minutes. The dealer will take their time so that it goes out to an hour and you will be charged accordingly.
lol the techs dont take their time they get a bollocking if it takes longer than it should. Dealerships want to get as many jobs done per day as possible so taking time serves no benefit. Time can vary depending on server speed but generally 30-45 mins.
Is it possible to take it to another locksmith for a second opinion ? that will probably work out cheaper.
