The key doesn't fit the door...
Of course the key fits, he just thinks (thought...?) it wasn't turning. Unless he's stuck in his shed key or something, the key would fit.

He mentioned the Key Barrel was replaced, but the original key doesn't turn in the barrel,
Yes It will fit,
but not turn as its possible the wrong cut.

OP = "The door lock was replaced a while ago and I don't have that key any more."
Possible had a separate Key for the door lock, one would assume.

There is a Moral in this story,
"NEVER DO THINGS HALF ARSED"

Because its always goes pear shape at the worst possible moment !!!

His shed key barrel was also swapped, so his Commodore key no longer works on the shed.

Just had the same problem, remote would not work so I used the key in the drivers door and of course the alarm/horn went off and scared the krap out of a couple sitting on the bench at Mooloolaba.
Only 2 blasts before I got the key in the ignition and started the car but enough to wake them up anyway.
I am convinced these remotes lose their contact or can easily be corrupted by other remotes in the area.
Got home and it works perfect now as usual.

if you parked in front of shops with electronic eye doors, these can interfere with remotes
i cannot park out front of jb, autobarn where i live
couple of bays either side is no problem
first time it happened guy from autobarn said it is very common
unfortunately the way i have alarm wired it will not start until it sees a valid remote signal
so had to push car back a couple of metres
