Is the knock sensor the only difference in a 185i motor, also how dose the knock sensor give you the extra power and what other advantages do they give

A knock sensor is a little microphone. It listens for a certain tone that knock/pinging makes. It only listens when knock/pinging will most likely happen through the power stroke.

If knock/pinging is detected the ECU will retard the timing to stop it.

A knock sensor adds no power at all. Its just a safety device.
