do u need to fit a knock sensor to a vs 5L when fitting a uprgrade chip (hsv one) will the eng run without it?
If it is Origional Holden then yep you do. I engine will run but not very well I don't think. PM Dr Bob on this forum and he will set you straight on this.
when using the STD HSV memcal you will need a knock sensor it will run without it but the timing will be limited & the engine light will be on. far better to get a proper tuned memcal, no need for a knock sensor & better performance available Rob
ah well,,,, i did get a custom tuned chip made. i have a hz ute with a vs 5L and a vn computer (less security when fitting the efi eng). anyway i got a custom chip made. i soldered the old one out, then just pushed the new one in and threw it back in the computer. its running like a bucket of snot! very rough and the eng check light is on. any ideas??? do i have to solder the chip? maybe its not contacting properly? it was very tight to push the chip into the chip housing so it should be contacting no worries. i got it off ebay off a bloke that goes by the name of commodorechips. i have emailed him but thought i would ask for everyone elses opinion also. cheers!
"commodorechips" do a search on here for posts by ragex, he has no idea sorry. no need to disable the security in a VN memcal. get your money back off him & ill fix you up a proper one for the same price. Rob

but.... just spoke the the commie chip off ebay on the phone two seconds ago. sounds like he been doing it for a while. seems to know what he is on about also. also when i mentioned just commies website he said ah whats that. so sounds like could be a different bloke to ragex...... he is going to send me another chip so will see how it goes....
ya no go tho. what do i do aye....... spent the cash already. yeh rob will make me one for same price thats awsome. but i still will be out of pocket. the bloke is going to give another one a go. he said he gave me a VN chip and should have given me a VS one even tho i got a VN computer. ah who knows bud. im not sure what to do!!
a vs chip wont work, he has no idea honestly. The engines are almost identical in specification, all you need is a VN memcal that works.lol Rob
