VZ Calais Impounded?
Have you had any work done in the engine bay recently?

Engine mounts replaced?
Extractors put on?

If you have warranty take it back and get them to fix it.

These are one of those pain in the ass sensors that you don't get symptoms from.

Normally, the ECU expects to hear slight knocking (you won't hear it), which it uses to adjust the timing - ie. it advances until it knocks, then retards one step at a time until it no longer hears it, then repeats again.

When the ECU is no longer fed a knock signal under any conditions, it assumes there's a fault and retards the timing to a setting that isn't optimal, but it knows that it won't knock, and illuminates the MIL on the dash.

Check the wiring connectors and that wiring isn't shorted to earth. Without an oscilloscope you won't be able to test the signal - have your electrician do this. Of all the engine sensors, this is probably the most reliable.

They should have a Factory Heat shield bolted around them protecting them from the Manifold
