Cheers foggsy and the rest of you. I'm getting car up on hoist tommorow to see what's what. I've decided to lower it just a little and it will look better with the same clearance from tyre to wheel arch. I'm just getting prices at the moment and will be asking them if I need a camber kit. Basically I want to drop in 1 or 2 inches and stop the squatting on take off. Ill see what they say and will let you all know how much on what product.

    Cheers

    Steve.

I also have King springs and Koni yellows. Very good combo. In the sedan the rears are adjustable while mounted on the car as well as the fronts.
On the softest setting they are comparable to FE2 struts, on fully hard you might lose a filling or three and put your back out :)
From memory the bilsteins were slightly more expensive than the konis.

I have them as well. This was one of the best mods I have done. I run them softest all round and they are similar to FE2 but FAR more progressive and controlled on bumps. I can't comment on any other brand since I haven't experienced them on a VE.

    Big Al,
How do you adjust the rears while they are on the car?

Ok prices. 4x koni yellow shocks. 4x king springs ( 2inch lowerd ). Wheel alignment included. $1950.00 he said there will be enough adjustment for the rear without a camber kit. Koni don't make camber kits either I found out.

    Your thoughts....

    Cheers. Steve.

Springs can be had on ebay for about $250, so $1700 for shocks + labour + wheel alignment seems a bit expensive to me........

AD07, have you gotten a quote for all of this before?...even IF I did source the springs for $250.00 a pop off E-BAY that's 1k, that leaves $950.00, Shocks say $100.00 each there's another $400.00 + wheel alignment $70.00 (approx)...So total without Labor = $1470.00. that leaves $480.00 for Labor....I'm not defending the quote until I get another one However it seems ok to me, If I can get another Quote and save $300.00 I will start to become suspicious.....

But hey cheers AD07 For your input..:)

Ummmm...... thats $250 for FOUR SPRINGS !!!!!!! Who the hell would pay 1K for springs?!?!?!?!?!
    See here
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLDEN-C...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23140bbd3d

So by your maths , its $400 for shocks plus $70 for an alignment.
With the (4) springs at $250, its a grand total of $720.
Now lets re-calculate that labour charge....................
    ...........................................................................
    .............................................................$1230. :hmmm:

No probs mate......i just hate seeing people get ripped off.
Although, i do think that Konis might be a little more than $100 each.

These guys are the cheapest at $850 for 4 Koni yellows everyone else gave me a quote for about $1200-1400 just for shocks.
Koni FSD shock absorber set for VE Commodore | Australia | Autocraft, Hobart Tasmania

Just a suggestion if you are going to get some quality shocks, why not get Eibach springs for an extra $100 for a set of 4 over the Kings well worth it, or at the very least H&R springs.

Like AD07 said I also hate people getting ripped off, do you research before buying, didn't take much on my behalf to get those prices.

Koni's from Tassie, now i've seen everything.
My mechanic recommends Welcome to Toperformance Products for Koni's, don't know what they would charge. I think GSL sell Koni as well ?

In the sedan the adjuster on koni yellows is at the top of the strut which pokes through into the boot. They come with a special knob that pops onto the spline and allows you to make adjustments.

    Calv,

Calais 57 is right regarding how they feel left at the softest setting. I have been back 3 times in the last few weeks getting my rears adjusted to my liking. I'm currently running 1.0 turns on the rear and 1.25 on the front with the king HD spring. Its firm but not uncomfortable. I had to back the rears off a bit as I found the car had no squat at 1.25 turns on the rear and it was harder to get the power down without spinning the rears especially in the wet if you were giving it a bit. You need a little bit of squat in the rear to get the power down.

My suggestion to you would be to use the SSLHD (superlow heavy duty) kings in the front and SL(low heavy duty) in the rear. This will give you a fairly even guard to tyre gap front to rear. Basically you can fit 1.5 to 2 fingers in the gap between the top of the tyre and guard. For shock adjustment if you want to keep it farily comfortable but controlled, get them to turn the rear shocks up half a turn from softest. Then play with the front which is easy to adjust yourself. I have found that to maintain a good front to rear balance, I run the front adjustment 0.25 turns firmer than the rear.

Its all subjective of course to the individuals own likings but this is just what i've found after 6 weeks of use and adjustment and changes of everything incl the rear sprinds more than once...

    Matt

No, it doesn't. We are talking about a VE here, not a dinosaur : )
The rear end of VE's have struts which bolt to the underside of the body, they don't poke through into the boot unfortunately.

More quotes. First from autocraft. X4 koni yellows $1000.00. Then from toperformance. Front $620.00 a pair and $580.00 a pair for rear. So at best it's 1k just for shocks. Then springs I managed to get king springs for the rear only for nothing but have no idea if there 2inch (50mm) drop or more.. The markings on them are as follows KHRL-152-SSSL

I'm starting to think that my quote for $1950.00 for everything is not way off the mark concidering the work involved as they have to take out the strut and cut it etc.

After hrs on the phone and comparing prices, I've managed to decide on koni yellows and eibach springs. The set up I will have is wont be dropping the ride height 50mm because it will be unroadworthy if I do. Thanks to foggsy for your input and everyone else. It's been an interesting exercise. I'm getting it all done this Saturday. Ill post before and afters.

    Cheers Steve. :)

    Hey Calv,

Which model Teins did you get mate? Was it the "supersport" with the 16 position adjustment on the damping? What level have you got them set at F & R?
