I have an l67 but have just blown the head gasket, my mechanic said no point fixing the motor itll never be the same just to replace, but im having a real hard time trying to source a motor for under $3000, would a reconditioning be cheaper and more effective?

dafaq .. replace the headgasket ,, Parts are cheap and take it to another mechanic .. he obviously doesn't want to do the job ... labor will be the killer ... .

Did you only blow a headgasket? Or is the head warped/cracked

If you can't find an engine for under $3000 you aren't looking hard enough. I quick search and i found an L67 CONVERSION (All bolt-ons, which you don't need) for $2200.

Or here is an engine for $1950 plus freight - Commodore VY WK Supercharged V6 L67 Engine | eBay

As for what is cheaper? No idea. When my ecotec heads got warped I was quoted $2400 for a fix, or $1000 for a new lower k engine plus labour (Came to $2500 all up). Choice was easy.

I don't know how much harder a L67 is than a L36, but I could have the heads off my Ecotec in just a few hours. Take it to a engine machinist and have the heads skimmed for a small price, and have new gaskets and new ARP head studs for a few hundred, then all fitted back together in my garage. No more than a long day or 2 day work with the right tools and my Gregory's manual.
