Hey guys, I've bought myself a rebuilt l67 and dropped it in my wagon. It's been sitting for a while prior to being installed.
First time I ran it, I thoroughly primed it before starting. I started it and got it up to temp. It sounded alright then after a bit it started to sound horrific. Alarm bells went off when the oil light flicked on after a bit of a rev. After days of stress and googling I realised the oil filter could be blocked. So I swapped out the filter and flushed it out with some thinner oil. I cut the first filter open to have a look and it was massively full of metal and assembly lube.
Ran an engine flush through the engine and changed the oil and filter again for some 10w.60.
It seems to be still getting a little dirty but not instantly like before.

After all that, it's not as bad but still has valve train noise. I checked the oil pressure today and got 55 psi at start up. It all seemed ok. The pressure would pick up with the revs. But as it gets to operating temp, the valve train noise becomes a little worse and the oil pressure dropped to about 40 - 45 at idle.
I'm hoping that because it still has pressure that the crank bearings are ok? Looking at the pressure relief spring/valve.
Anybody able to point me in the right direction?? Cheers

40-45psi at idle is fine pressure wise but noise and the fact that you had metal in the filter would be a good indicator something is worn so I'd be pulling the engine and checking it over.

Metal is fine for break in isnt it? It's been fully rebuilt.
I'm worried because it sat for so long that all the assembly lube has solidified and run through the motor.
Blocked pick up maybe hopefully?!?
It's not idling properly either. Such a let down.

as immortality said, metal in the filter,
Not a good sign,
as mentioned, pull it out, and pull it down.

Any good engine re-builder would not leave swarf/shrapnel I an engine,
Who re-built it ?

Not what I wanted to hear lol. I'm trying to be optimistic.
Although I can't say I saw any shrapnel. Just the shiny metal glitter in the oil. The blockage was the grease I feel more so.
It wasn't done by a shop. It was bought off a guy who did it himself.
The engine itself sounds good except for some lifter noise. Which is causing a crappy idle when it get bad.. it's not super bad, could probably drive it if I wanted to but I don't want to cause any damage if it can be fixed.

At this stage it's probably just bearings that are stuffed but put it under load and it might just grenade. Metal is never a good sign and these motors use a roller cam follower so there is no cam/lifter to break in.

It couldn't be my lifters themselves could it? Sorry if I'm sounding noob.

How has this happened? Something I've done?

Sounds like there is a lifter problem but the shiny glitter is most likely bearing material. It is possible that some of that glitter material has made it into the lifters and caused them to play up.

Drop the oil and see how much shiny **** is in there.
