Why would l67 heads need to be shaved if I removed or replaced them.Trying to buy some as mine has a crack.lad said they will need to be shaved.please explain as I thought it bolted on.Also can any recommend a decent head upgrade for this motor that's not worth more than my car.Any help will help.

So the Heads sit flat and so you don't blow a gasket again. They just skim them no big drama. Do the job right and you will only will need to do it once.

A skim to ensure they are flat and depending on the intended type of head gasket to be used surface finish can be important. If you are confident at your ability to check the heads are flat you could bolt em on without needing a skim (assuming they are flat)

If the heads are off I would at the very least check/lap all the valves and a good general clean up before fitting.

I have been quoted around $1000 to reco my heads which includes reshaping the valves and seats and some mild porting. Surely your bus is worth more than 1000 bucks, plus a gasket kit. A quick head reco won't be $1000 including gaskets.

All so take in consideration your lifter rods, they need to be in within tolerance, you will need measure the lifter crush to make sure its within specs, you may have to get sorter push rods depending measurement.

If it’s just a skim to ensure the heads are flat then I doubt there’d be any issues with pushrod lengths, it’s when ya start milling the crap outta them to get a higher compression ratio you’ll have issues
