VE SS wagon 2010
I have a ve ss wagon with a collapsed lifter. Repair bill quote $4-7,000. Engine has 320,000 k’s and till now has been faultless. Not sure of best options. New long motor? Wreckers? Money is tight. Never had an issue with drivetrain in it’s life.

Pull the heads off, and replace the lifters yourself.

But make sure you source a decent set, because you don't want to be doing it twice !

Bare list of Materials -
Lifters,
Head Gaskets
New head bolts
Stud sealant.

You best friend will be a Torque Wrench for this job

Having just done the above as part of my ls3 cam swap I can say it's not as daunting as I expected it to be.

If money is tight and you have some sort of mechanical skills I'd diy it. Save a heap of coin and have the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

I got a package of genuine head gaskets, head bolts, lifters and trays for 530ish. Factor in fluids and a few odds/ends maybe $1000?

Food for thought.

Definitely make sure you replace the lifter trays with genuine GM ones. Some of the cheap ones are made out of shitty plastic that doesn’t hold the lifter properly and then you end up with spun lifters, wiped cams and a whole world of hurt.
