So, I'm collecting bits to a cam swap on my S2 VE ute & deciding if I run a standard 3 bolt type cam sprocket or an adjustable timing set. I'm primarily after power/torque low to mid-range as the car is an auto daily driver that occasionally will tow a race trailer. I've decided on the VCM532 cam kit & have done this job before on the wife's VE L76 wagon using a Comp cam that's milder. The car isn't revved much over 4000 usually so I'm not interested in maximum power at maximum revs.
What I'm wondering about is If I advance the cam does it just lower where the torque starts or does it increase torque at a lower rev? Would 4 deg be OK or should I set it less?
I'd be interested in hearing from people's experiences/suggestions.
Thanks
Duncan

it will help to a point as it just shifts the cams best torque operating range a little lower IF advancing it is helping the low speed airflow, that cam looks to maby gain a little from the 4 deg but it's not too bad straight up as it is wether it would be noticeable im not sure

this will give u an idea on the changes with advancing/retarding a camshaft, they use the LS9 cam for n/a in there test
