2012 L77 SSV Redline
Have a 2012 SSV Redline Series 2 with L77 engine I'm assuming.
Noticed some strange noises and vibrations and then the CEL on and Stability control light off.
Engine is in limp mode but sounds like one of the lifters is screwed.
What is the first step reading the codes which is not readily available or finding the ticking type noise which is now quite amplified. I had a noisy lifter for a while but only for the first 20 secs and nothing more than a tick. Now very pronounced

if its loud best not to run it anymore and tow to a mechanic for pull down you might save the engine

ok yes definitely sounds like lifters. where is the best place to source parts? When the heads come off is it worth touching them or just get them checked out?

We use Holden OE cams and get the lifters and bearings out of precision I'm not sure if they sell retail though.

Engine has to be removed to do the cam beraings. I think the whole job is close to 14 hours. The engine gets stripped to a short block as the timing cover has to come off and then there is a chance the sump gasket will leak so you just do that too. The rear plate has to come off well that's what the engine shop wanted. They need the cam so they can check the new cam bearings and scrap them if need be.

right I have the engine apart and heads off.
sending the heads for a cleanup.
do I replace the afm lifters and camshaft if necessary or delete the function? I do a lot of driving that is all in the country along straight highways

Just replace the lifters with what's there. I think the ones we use are Hylift Johnson. Cam is OEM only unless you want to upgrade.
But you need to check the cam bearings for clearance if it's at 3 thou or more they need to be replaced. 3 thou and over will bleed off too much pressure to the lifters which is what I believe causes the issue to start with.
