I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on running slightly higher profile tyres on a VE

I have 19's with the standard 245/40/19's. I have seen 255/40/19 sizes..and even thought that a 45 profile may fit..going to a larger profile (if they fit) would help ground clearence and improve ride..and I know on my ca..r the speedo is aproximatly 4 k's over the "real" speed. ..so... going to the next profile would not effect the speedo very much...

    Good Idea!

My SV6 also has a speedo error of 4 KPH through the normal speed range. Seems to be programmed in, probably to "help" drivers avoid speeding tickets.

My two previous Commodores (VL, VS II and VY II) all had speedos that were accurate to 1 to 2 KPH depending on tyre wear, so I find the 4 annoying. I do remember that my last F**d also had a 4 KPH error. It makes using speed alert (in 5 KPH increments) much less effective than it was in the VS II and VY II. Best solution would to be a speed alert with say seven or eight custom settings rather than just four.

What irritates me a lot is that my odometer over reads by 1.8%. This is a straight mechanical ratio, and there is no reason for it to be so far out. I know the "allowed" error is 10% or something, but they got to about 0.2% on the VS II and absolutely spot on in the VY II.

I am considering going to 255/45R18, which will drop the odometer error to about 0.6%. Unfortunately, there is no 265/45R18 to get it close to right. There is a 275/45R18 used by Mercedes, but that takes the error the other way.

Having been happy to have accurate odometers and speedo's in the past makes this aspect of the VE a very disappointing "feature".

Don't think that I am unhappy with the car. I am not. It's just that easily avoided inaccuracies, a difficult to read speedo (white on grey with the silver strip refecting over the centre of the dial) and a combined trip computer/stereo controls setup that are all a step back from simple and effective sytems in previous Commodores is irritating.

umm fekason, going from 245 to 265 or 275 will do stuff all to speedo acuracy, will be exactly the same as that is the width, the one that changes the speedo reading is the 40, 45, 50 which is the tyre height profile

yes but the profile is the % of the width so wider in 40 profile is higher sidewall than skinnier in the same profile 40 profile is 40% of the width

    But does change odometer accuracy.

If you read my post, I was referring to the tyre size affecting odometer accuracy, which it will do.

My "solution" for the speedo error was to have more custom speed alert settings (which are adjustable by 1 KPH) - not available I know. If it didn't muck up the effectiveness of the speed alert, I can live with speedo error.

dont worry so much about the speedo just yet mate!! legally you have to stay within + or - 15mm of the original rolling diameter!! u shouldnt have any problems with going 255's as there's only about 8mm difference, but make sure the load and speed rating is equal or higher than whats stated on ur cars tyre placard!! plus i reckon ur speedo will only be just over 1km slower!! see how u go!!

speedo accurancy can be altered with vcm suite tuning,

^^That's what I was gonna say.

Your Holden dealer can adjust your speedo to suit your wheel/tyre rolling diameter using a Tech2. They did it for me.

    Interesting!

I asked two dealers to "fix" my concerns through Tech2.

Both categorically stated that it was not possible to recalibrate a VE speedo/odometer in the simple fashion possible with VZ and earlier using Tech2. I pushed the second dealer, who then claimed to check with the factory before confirming that their original advice was correct.

I might have to try again - maybe a third dealer.

Yeah, usually with Holden dealers "it's not possible" means "we don't know how" lol.
