Gday all, Tomorrow im installing a new pioneer head unit into a mates car. I noticed it has an illumination wire and remembered back to a thread about pioneer head units and images getting buned into the LCD's. So whats the go with that? Is it a common problem? Should I tap the ciggy lighter illuminmation wire or just solder it in with the accesories wire and have the illumination on full time? I tried searching for the thread but after 15mins I gave up, as im thinking it might have been lost when JC had server issues. Thanks.
What head unit? LCD doesn't suffer from burn in, just image retention which eventually fades away. If you're talking about the OEL display on their CD players then it can burn in over a couple of years or so if you don't use the "reverse mode" function of the head unit.
the illumination wire is there so u can dull the cd player with ur dimmer switch if its 2 bright at nite not really nessasary 2 use so yeah just tape it up if ur not fussed with that
ended up finding that the stock head unit had an illumination wire so just soldered to that. tho I cant see it making a difference when the head lights are tuned on. unless theres a setting somewhere? oh well.. diddnt have time to play with it because I was in a hurry.
There is a setting to turn dimmer on and off. On some models there's also a setting to adjust the brightness of the OEL. Burn in in the older models took a couple of years, i'm sure they've improved it by now
