    Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anybody has put an led or neon light in the cup holder section? If so how?
Would really like to have a blue glow to the cup holder, is it possible?
    Cheers

Just get a flexible smd strip off ebay and use that, Link into the glovebox light or the interior light's if you want it to come on when you open the door or swich on the light, Or the phone power and use a swich.
Many way's to do it... but i think a smd strip would be the best and brightest
    good luck

Do they do strips small enough to fit in the cup area? I looked but couldn't seem to find any, might have another look.
Yeah will hook it up to the cigarette lighter, don't want it too bright though.
    Thanks vx_commodore!

Lsx not sure how I'd be able to out that in the cup holder though? Do you mean cut a hole in the side and place the light there? Might work! Will look more into both options.
    Cheers

    Shouldnt be hard.

Tap into the interior light, trace some wire to the cup holder area and place into the underside. Easy enough to do or run it from 12v constant which should eb available from the window switches.

In fact, since the window switches are powered by the ecu, and cut off power when leaving the vehicle and locking it, should be easy enough to tap into that and do a overide switch as well but if its faint enough wont have to worry.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm interesting.

    EDIt
    Ebay for SMD strip

Was going to get these and place in boot, and possibly in interior of car in suttle areas like footwells.

Yeah I get what your saying, I don't have power windows though haha.
That's a 5m strip? Are you able to cut it or something?
    Cheers

that link would b better value 4 money but if u just want the 1 section (3 LEDs) which would b more than enough u can get them from jaycar or altronics but u will pay a lil 4 them being aussie sellers. i think they were around the $5-7 mark.

if u want them 2 turn on with ur interior light circuit use the unused globe socket thats 4 the higher end models that have footwells. u'll find it tapped up behind ur ECU.

yeah thats good value, but im not keen on soldering. much rather just plug in to the ciggie charger.
Already got footwells front and rear along with leds in the boot and glove box haha.
Four of the probs be 2 in the cup holder, 1 in the centre console and 1 in the rear dash bin.

    Done it finally

After initial trial and error, found a easy solution.

In the top picture, you can see what the LEDs look like normally and with a blue filter around it. I installed the one with the blue filter with double sided tape on the underside of the pop out cup holder thingy so shines downwards.
If the LEDs are facing from any side, it lights up the cabin. I didnt want that, just wanted a soft glow and looks great with water bottle in it, lights it up like a soft fountain lol.

Pictures dont do it justice. Nor does my dirty cup holder but alas thats clean now.

My red LED window switches been replaced with a standard one for now til i fixed up the rear windows window lock switch. Stupid bloody design.
Also Power and Traction control button lights are ready to go in, and thats a stupid design as well and that will happen within a few weeks.

    1. I used a strip eventually cut down to 6 LEDs soldered into the auto transmission Illunination light (when you turn on the headlights, the light on the gear selector)
    2. Dremelled a hole to put wire through from cup holder base to link up with the transmission globe wiring.
    3. Swore alot, threading wire through hole to get to the transmission globe was fun. In the end easy
    4. Wired it up all and soldered. Left plenty of wire for when or if i take apart centre console, cut the wire and eventually put on a wiring plug for it
    5. Attached LEDs to underside with double sided tape to cup holder.

    Good stuff.

I have a Calais centre console, gonna rip the wiring out and switch and install into this car with the switch for the light inside the centre console. I have to tap into the power window 12v constant i think. Will fiddle later on with it

I like what you did, but wanted a soft glow for the LED permanently at night and not just when i lift the centre console as wanted to be able to see where im putting my drink back into easily enough.
