i drive my 2002 vx series 2 commodore executive in new south wales.

the tyre placard only has 15 inch specs... however i want to put a set of

    18 inch rims with a 235/40/R18 tyres

Is this legal or illegal as i do not wish to get a defect notice...

ok mate, there are soooo many threads on here about this. But u seem new so ill point u in the right direction. iv even been guilty of starting a thread about this so dont worry :) just try the search button and tyre rims legal etc. but if your tyre placard only has specs of up to 15 inch then u can only go to 17inch. It seems a little weird that it only has 15 inch specs though. my vt executive came with 15's on it but the tyre placard has specs of up to 16 inch.

U can however get your rims engineered so they will be legal it will cost around $400 jst enquire at any major type store or your government body. Police would not be likely to bother u if u had 18's on ur vx as its nothing out of the ordinary.

But yeh get on the search to find out some more info or give a few type shops a ring and have a chat.

    enjoy JC mate

    All the best,

Pretty sure the 2inch rule only applies to SA and not for everyone else

its got very little to do with rim size its about over all rolling diameter. this means the diameter of the rim and tyre combined. my ute had 16's on it standard and now has 18's and i rang the rta to make sure it was legal. that is what they told me.

for the record, going from 225/65/16 to 235/40/18 made my rolling diameter decrease by 3mm.

His question wasn't about the 2 inch rule or rim size. As he gave the profile of the tyre, I presume he meant the overall rolling diamater... And he said the tyre/rim size.

Stock you would have 205/65 R15 95H rims and tyres. Make sure your load and speed rating remains ATLEAST 95H or better.

Stock overall rolling diamater is 647.5mm, with the tyres you want being 235/40/18's your new overall rolling diameter will be 645.2mm making your odometer 0.4% too fast so when travelling 100km/h your speedo will read 99.6km/h... So **** all difference mate.

Yes the tyre and rim size you wish to change to is legal :)

    1. That is a stupid post and a stupid comment.
    2. They are not called 'pigs'.
    3. There is no 2 inch law in Vic anyway so what you are suggesting is pointless as 18's or 19's or even 20's are legal on his car even with a 15" tyre placard.
    4. Police carry around a book which states the standard rim size for all vehicles, and why would police look at the dash badge? You do realise that when they look up the rego number it lists the vehicle and model?
    5. Changing ANY placard/plate on the vehicle is HIGHLY ILLEGAL. It is no different to changing the vehicle i.d. plate etc. and the fines and consequences are not very nice.

There hasnt been a 2" rule in Vic since 2004. You just need to stay within 15mm of the overall rolling diameter of the original tyre and rim combo. And of course all the other ins and outs regarding rims and tyres (load rating and speed rating etc.)

So that means if you have a VT series 2, You go by the largest wheel factory package including HSV?
Or if your car had 15" then you can only go 15mm larger? and 25mm wider?.

Than the largest listed on your tyre placard. That is the largest reccomended by the manufacturer for that vehicle model.

    its legal if:
-the total track isn't increase by 25mm. +45 offset means you can go to +32.5mm
-wheels & tyres diameter isn't increased by 15mm
-tyre width isn't increased by 25mm or more
-wheel widths only increase by 25mm or less
-load ratings of the tyres are equal or higher then whats required on the tyre placard

if you chose your wheels and tyres right then yes, you can put 19's onto your VT in vic
