hey all im trying to install a level 3 cluster to my vr now ive got the plug and the trip computer but i don't kno how to wire them up i had a look around on the fourms and only could find stuff for vn/vp anyways any help would be great
as far as i'm aware, depending on the model of your VR, you'd probably need to upgrade you BCM, to that of the berlina, or calais model types... I have been wanting to do this to my VS for sometime, but i fear that even with a BCM i'll also need to upgrade sensors etc so that they work... also the trip computer i'm not sure sure will plug into a stock exec VS BCM... i'm correct me if im wrong but i think that's the only factor needed considering...
BCM Change Not Necessary! This is not correct. There is no need to change the BCM. The cluster and trip computer are independent of the BCM. The cluster will work without any difficulty, but the trip computer will require electrical wiring work. In addition to the level 3 cluster and the trip computer buttons, it is necessary to source an electrical harness with the fourth connector and the connector for the trip computer buttons. The tacho for the V6 and V8 are not interchangable, so it is important to get a cluster that suits your engine. It is possible to modify the tacho if necessary, but best to get it right first go.
ive got the plug and the trip computer with its plug but u have to wire them into the loom some how and thats where im totally stumped
Try reading this thread, it helped me out doing mine and was quite easy to follow. http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vr-vs-holden-commodore-1993-1997/994-tripin.html
Does the whole dash have to come out when doing this mod? ie. all the plastic stuff? (to wire the looms and that?)
Got a VR V8 exec with level 2 cluster, instead of patching the loom couldn't you just pull the dash off and swap the exec harness with a calais harness? for plug and play? or would I still have to wire up the wire to go to the computer near the kick panel? but would this mean i need a different BCM?
