Heya all, I was playing with my Level 3 Cluster settings last night and discovered when you hold down the SET button on one of the 3 screens for a few seconds, it'll come up with a Calibration setting depending what screen you're on.

I'm not sure what these are and if anyone knows what they calibrate then by all means tell me! :w00t:

    Here's what I found:

On the Set Speed Limit Screen (Q/Speed) holding down Set for 5 seconds brings up:

    middle screen: FUEL 600 Flocal

The 600 setting can go as low as 497, so I set mine to 500. (Press the UP and DOWN buttons while holding down SET).

On the Average Speed Screen holding down Set for 5 seconds brings up:

middle screen: FUEL 30.1L right screen: .01 Cal.

I think this is a calibration setting for the Fuel tank? The fuel itself goes up if I press the UP and DOWN buttons while holding SET. If this is telling me I have 30.1L in the car, this is also very helpful at times.

On the Trip Time Screen holding down Set for 5 seconds brings up:

    middle screen: DIST 600 Cal

The 600 setting can go as low as 497, so I set mine to 500. (Press the UP and DOWN buttons while holding down SET).

Anyone know exactly what these are?

from memory either the dist600 or the fuel600 calculates how much fuel you are actually using per 100kms.

if youve changed yours from when it was preset the reading is out now and it takes a bit of fine tunning to get it back to what it should be

oh :D then I'll change it back to 600, I remember the values that were set as it's from a level 2 -> 3 cluster conversion. There's a setting (switch) on the back of the cluster for a 60L to 80L tank (to compensate for the varying resistance from the fuel sender to the fuel sensor) and this is currently set to 60L. I thought the values of these should be all standard, but some adjustment can always be handy.

Doesn't it work all this out from the fuel used etc anyway and the speedo?

If they're adjusting values then it'll probably take a good 50km's to put them back into sync after the adjustment. I'll see how I go with that.

I'd like to know what other peoples clusters are set to and why

    Default Settings

The default settings are 625 for fuel flow and distance calibration. The fuel quantity default setting is 0.0.

The purpose of the adjustments are to allow errors in the trip computer to be cancelled. It does nothing else. The distance calibration affects the tripmeter readouts, but does not affect the odometer.

Setting them way out just results in the trip computer proving incorrect readings. I would recommend setting them to the default settings and keeping records to allow accurate calibration later.

My old VS II, now with one of my sons, had settings of 621 for fuel, 625 to 630 for distance (changing as tyres wore) and 0.0. Result in that car was a very accurate trip computer.

Wow, that's very helpful..! Thanks... I had these set to 500 last night, and it was saying I had 120km to go before I run out, and I put them 600 and it was more accurate than at 500 saying I had roughly 200km's to go. :)

I'm not sure where it got 600 from originally although this cluster was completely reset by a cluster tester prior to delivery.

I'll try these settings, they sound very close to what I need, thanks! Was that VS II a V6 too?

yeh i suppose so... it explains in ur manual how to check it out and adjust it... a big dent in the bottom of ur fuel tank can also throw the reading off... it thinks there is more fuel than there is haha.

i have just fitted a level 3 cluster from a vs statesman and used the original loom from the car also 2 problems though i know i dont have a rear window defogger and dont have the air con switch but i will get it modified but the problems are that when the car is turned to red on or off the led lights up like the lights are on but when the lights are turned on they turn off and the tacho and speedo dont light up and also i dont have an instant or average fuel reading it all reads 0 and so i dont know where it gets the distance to empty which is all over the place

The lighting wires are very different with a L3 loom. Look up "tripin"

The best way to get around the problem is to graft in the 4th plug into your existing L2 loom. It takes about an hour to do and all the problems you have right now vanish. A/C works, lights, rear demister and the instant fuel works too.
