    i believe its in the electrics inside the cluster, from memory, theres a few resistors, but its easier to get a cluster of the same engine type.

    im sorry but i cant remember what is different between the clusters, as in tacho or speedo is wired differently.

    It works in 2 main groups

    V6 - Level 1,2 or 3
    V8 - Level 1,2 or 3

    And in those groups, each level is...

    Level 1 = No Rev Tacho
    Level 2 = Rev Tacho, but no Digital Readouts
    Level 3 = Rev Tacho with Digital Readouts

    correct me if im wrong anyone, but i think thats it??

    hmmm.... sounds too much of a hassle to be playin with??

    on the back of all clusters, theres a switch to select 60 or 80Ltr... but not to convert back and forth from V6 to V8...

    best idea would be sell yours... and use that to buy a suitable one?

    Only the tacho!

    The only effective difference is the tacho. Otherwise parts are inter-changable between V6 and V8 level three clusters. The cluster has a switch to select the normal tank (60L) or the long range tank (80L). Other than that, the trip computer is common to both.

    Note that a level 2 cluster cannot be transposed into a level 3.

    Fuel tank capacity....

    Most, if not ALL V6's came with a 60 Litre and the V8's commonly had the 80 fuel tank.

    Select the 60 Lt setting and then add more (8 Litres) via the trip computer setting.

    Thats what I did for the VN wagon (68 L tank) Added 8 Lt to the base setting on the tank.

    There is 3 main setting to calibrate the trip computer.

    1 = distance (stock setting 625)
    2 = fuel flow (stock setting 625)
    3 = fuel remaining (stock setting = 0) Empty tank.

    DTE is worked out using this info so if you have bigger tyres then you will need to change the first setting so the amount of KMS travelled is accurate.

    When you fill the tank, (and you have a 68 lt tank) the trip computer says you have 20 lts left and you put 46 lts in you will need to add 2 lts to the base setting. After filling it should read 68:)

    Press and hold the reset button for 3 secds. then press the + or - button.

    Press and hold the reset button (works in all 3 modes) 1 dist, 2 flow, 3 fuel remaining then press + or - to adjust

    60 or 80 is the cluster switch only. Then you set the trip computer

    Just put the cluster in.:) If you know your ute gets say 14 L per 100kms and the L3 dash reports the same - it wont need changing.

    The base setting is the switch in the cluster. If the cluster comes from a V6 wagon (which has a 68L tank) it will be set to 60L + also probably been calibrated for the extra 8 litres already.

    But it's not always the case - people wanting to show really good fuel economy (to selll a car) will set the distance to max and the fuel flow to lowest settings. That way the car will say 7.6 L/100 or better - but when you fill the tank you will put in 20% more than what the trip computer would say is left in the tank.

    Yep when you have filled it up the (press and hold the reset button) should say 68 Lt remaining in the tank - on level ground. If it says 60 then use the plus botton while still holding the reset button and add 6, 7 or 8 lts.

    You can test the amount in the tank while driving on some flat road too:thumbsup:.

    This can be handy to work out what the 1/2 a tank on the guage to whats in the tank proper. Half a tank being 34 litres.

    Hope thats a bit clearer
