As some of you already know, I currently have a 4 month license suspension for DD (0.04 the morning after), which I am a bit over half way through. As a part of the offence, I have to do a Drink/Drug driving course which I have booked in for the 30th.

Yesterday I got a letter from Vicroads saying that I haven't done the course, and as a result my license has now been cancelled indefinately. :bang: I was told that there was no time limit for when I had to do the course, just that I wouldn't get my license back at the end of the suspension if it was not completed.

I have been trying to ring vicroads all morning but there is always a 20+min wait on hold, so I haven't got through.
What are my chances of not getting my license cancelled, and serving the rest of the suspension normally?

Also, if they do go through with the cancellation, would I go back to the new P-plate laws?

If I were you, I'd contact Vicroads and ask them...

Do the course and then go get your license back. You will have fulfilled your obligations.

I finally got through to vicroads.
They said whenever someone has to produce a certificate such as a DD course the license is always cancelled until the course is done.
So hopefully (according to the girl I spoke to) I can just go do the course, then once my time is up go and pick up my license again with no extra cost or anything (except for the $105 to do the course).

46 days to go!...I really need to pull the finger out and get my car finished

Speaking of drivers ed courses, who offers the best advanced/defensive driving courses in Melbourne? Everyone says how helpful they are, and I think it would be worth doing one.

I did a murcots (spelling?) course and iv also done the AAMI advanced drivers course.
I did the AAMI one first, it was paid for my AAMI and they also took 10% off my insurance cost. The day was extremely educational and focused on making you think of the consequences of your actions and not responding affirmatively to other peoples actions.
The practical driving section emphasised how your car responds to differently in various situations and allows you to hone your judgments according to conditions and speed. Overall it was a brilliant day and I have changed many of my driving habbits.

I did the murcots one with a mate. The day was good but mainly just taught you how to get out of slides and the difference between understeer and oversteer. It did not show, to the same effect as the AAMI, how the problems occur or even how to avoid them. It really was just a case of, "go too fast around these cones, when your sideways then counter steer - and thats how we control it" I found it uneducational, and pointless. It was a bit of fun, but what driving isnt?.

A drink drive course hey? Does that mean you get all loaded up on drugs and booze then do a driving test or somthing? Sounds funny hahaha. So lets me get this straight, you have to complete a defensive driving course for a drink driving violation?

I have to do a drink drive education course for drink driving.
Then thinking about that reminded me that I want to do a defensive driving course, so i posted about that rather than start a new thread.

The lady from the drink driving course told me its an instant fail if I show up ****ed, so that might not be the best idea.
Does anyone know what the drink driving course involves? Will I just be shown 8 hours worth of car crash pictures? Should I stop asking so many questions in the one thread?

i think its like 3hrs a night.. over a few days......
i thik they just talk abt ****.. then maybe after that they go to the pub?
oh and when u do get it back (if not off ur P's)
if ur an open licenced driver, u have to have a ZERO BAC in ur system at all times (for 12months), if u do have a BAC if u get pulled over at any stage u will get ****ed in the arse.
thats one thing my bos mentioned to me abt it.

Word of warning, Be careful with Vic roads there incompetent with almost anything.

16 months ago my Sister handed in the rego of her VL Calais.. They just went to SA for a trip, She placed her name down on the car they told her this licence was cancelled?.

Once calling Vic roads they told her she handed in her licence 16 months ago, So that means she has been driving for the last 16 months without a licence.

Now they are currently doing a internal investigation into this.

Lucky she found out that way rather then a police officer pulling her over.

Drink driving course, I'll ask my nephew about that he might know someone who has been to one of late.

Yeah, mine is 4 hours a night over 2 nights.
And I have heard that if I get done DD in the next 10 years then it is an instant suspension and court appearance. Still, I am not planning on doing it again anytime soon so that should b fine.
I hadn't heard about the 0.0 BAC thing though. I will still have 6 months on my P's after

I don't trust vicroads at all. It took them 3 goes to get the right name on the cheque when I tried to cancel rego on a written off car, then when I was losing my license they ****ed me around saying I would have to go back to the start of my P's and be under the new system.
I will be ringing again in a day or 2 to see what a different person says about this cancellation thing
