    Hi.
Im pretty impressed with the oil change i did a couple of days ago on my 5.7. I had Bad lifter noise, so i decided to change the oil as it was due for service and put in a Penrite HPR 10w40 Everyday Fully Synthetic along with a Ryco Z160. Within about 10km's, it had noticeably quietened right down to the point of almost disappearing. I don't know what oil the last owner put in, must have been **** cause the oil was clean and fresh when i brought it off the yard but still had a terrible lifter noise. It was still bad when the oil was brown.
So it pays to get a good Quality oil and not just some cheap rubbish crap. Always liked Penrite and now, wont use anything else.

I had an issue with a noisey lifter. Penrite fixed it for a little while but it eventually came back with a vengeance. Switched to Nulon a year ago and haven't heard a peep.

Good to hear you sorted yours though :) Nothing like a noisey lifter to drive you nuts lol.

With the larger sumps in the VYs, I like to buy whatever comes in a 6 litre bottle!

Usually only Nulon and Valvoline that sell the 6 litre bottles...

Right now im using Phoenix 10w40. My mechanic uses this stuff and threw it in recently during a service. You can only buy it in bulk. I'm not sure of whether its any good or not. Can't hear any rattles or tapping so that must be a good thing. I change the oil myself every other 5000ks in between services.

Anyone know anything about Phoenix oils?

Always used Penrite myself and never had any dramas. Got HPR10 in my VZ at the moment, had the racing ten tenths 10w70 in it before and it seemed quite good but couldn't justify the cost each change. Will keep an eye out for it on special and may switch back as the LS1 did run a bit smoother on it. Spark plugs are up for a change too so that could have something to do with it.

I started to get lifter noise on cold start ages ago, ran some engine flush and it went away and never returned.

Magnatec Professional 10/30, engines quiet as with nearly 200k on it.
