lifter noise?

Update on my car. Placed it in to the local Holden dealer. I was concerned as I was informed by a mechanic friend that it was definitely lifter noise. I booked it in for a diagnostic and was called later to confirm that it was lifters. As the car is four months out of warranty I was a tad worried...The service person informed me that he would call Holden in regards to the warranty. Later that day he rang me back to tell me that Holden was going to wear the costs of around $4,000!!

My mechanic friend also told me that he has a mate that is a courier driver for a Holden dealer and constantly ferries these motors for some sort of fix or another and supposedly there is a particularly bad batch.

Question: has anyone else heard of these problems with the lifters on these motors?
