    Hey All.

Here is a Video of the annoying Lifter/Rocker Arm noise my VY makes, Its only after starting from HOT then stops after a min or so, When starting cold its fine.
    Running 15-60 HPR 15 Penrite.

Think its worth throwing some of that Nulon Lifter free additive in ? Or Should i look at 20-50 something a bit thicker ?

Any Clue Guys ? Or Just another commodore thing, Shits me cause my VX has more KMs and is silent lol

    Thanks

common noise, i take it youve check the rocker bolts? You could try some decent oil, say M1 10-40 most likely just a lazy lifter though.

Thanks mate. failing that ill give the lifter free a go also, cant hurt to run it through. As for oil i use to run 10-40 in it and it made the noise on cold start up also, since running the 15-60 its no longer doing it on start up on cold. Just hot Now :S

Just Went out and had a look, Bolts are pretty tight, dont have my torque wrench but seems more then enough to me.
But discovered i got Mace High Ratio Rockers as seen by the extra part under the rocker arms. So i guess its just lazy lifter then. But Jeez i found no power difference from that to my stock VX lol

Mace rockers are the same as the standard except the positioning of the pushrod hole, a standard car has the base plate underneath, it's the cradle the rockers sit on. mace rocker plate has a bit more clearance than standard. Did you give your rockers a wobble at all?

Well i was just going by the numbers i could read on that metal plate and what i can read on the Mace Ones, Mace Have the Number #24502278 from what i can see on there site, And Mine have as your can see 0227 on mine other numbers covered.
Anyway gave the rockers a pretty hard shake no wobble at all. and also when i got the car it has high flow KN filter, slotted brakes etc, amp wires though the car. i think a car "enthusiast" owned it lol

    Standard bolts shown here

Ill Just try some Nulon Lifter Free and see what happens for now. Might just be some crap built up.

I put the mace rockers on mine a few weeks ago and yes the numbers are the same on the plates, as the1 said with the re usable Allen key head the only noticeable difference between stock and the mace are the cradle plate has more clearance to the springs and pushrods and re usable bolts. Mace rockers are a re manufactured product of the stock setup with re positioning to how the push rods meet up with the rocker arm. I asked the question when I changed over as I could not tell the difference in rocker arms but now they are in, can certainly notice they are different. better fuel economy, quicker up top and a b;tch to drive in the wet.

The bad news is that they're not our rockers. The good news is that there are more gains to be had to upgrading to higher ratio rockers :)

You could try some lifter free, though I would be more inclined to go 20W 50 oil myself

Ill put some engine flush through, get some Max Life 20-50 Valvoline, if it continues in with the lifter free.

    Similar issue valve lifter

    Hi,
My VY has a noisy lifter I think as well. Tapping noise clearly coming from driver's side front valve lifter. Took rocker off and pushed down on the spring with a block of wood. When I started the car up the noise was not there, complely quiet but the car was spluttering. However 30 seconds later the noise returned as the engine returned to normal. I presume I pushed oil out of the lifter and it readjusted. Does this sound like a lifter issue. I have taken the head off a liteace and that worked ok. Am considering doing the same if I need to get access to the lifter. Have been quoted $1700. Ouch. Very little available on removing head of a V6. What problems would happen over time if not fixed?
    Thanks
