How hard is it, and how do you change them in a v6 VP, Is it as simple as ripping the manifold off, takeing the rocker cover's off, loosening the rockers, extracting the rods then use say a pencil magnet to " lift " out the lifters, or is it a bit more involved ?
Just take the retainers off and twist them out, i am having a problem with my car at the moment havnt herd it much or checked where the noise is coming from but i think it might be lifters to so i will check it out tomorrow i hope its all thats wrong with it cause i have new lifters to go into it, It makes a noise at all rpm and its pretty loud its not timing chain, doesnt sound like the rockers are loose i checked them about 2-3months ago and there tight as no play in them i have also had the loose rocker problem but yeah never herd this problem before its not H/B cause thats new and its not a Bigend cause i also know what they sound like lol i've had some bad things happen to my old car, now its this car great lol oh well V6 motors dont cost stuff all. get a S2 next
Any chance of describeing or recording the sound for me ? And retainers ? where and how ? i am going to pick up a manual for this motor soon, but id like to have a fair idea of what im geting my self into. Ive pulled down a old black motor, and varius other small motors, but i havent attempted repairs on a buic before
Went to a Mechanic and he said it sounds like the flexplate, he said take the belt off and see if the rattle is still there he said it doesnt sound internal, so rules out lifters, retainers hold the lifters in, by memory they slide out, a manual is a good idea, depends how much money you got and if it will bolt upto your car or not i think manual s2 is 8bolts and same with auto in s2 so it should be right s1 is a headache with a auto motor , do u have clutch cable, pedal box, tail shaft, etc all this could cost abit of money. I cant record the sound, but when its ilde and ingear with handbrake on its pretty out and is more noticeable under the car so it might be the flexplate i will take the belt off and see whats the go with it, hope i have a spare flexplate in the shed theres so much crap up there.
Spray some carby cleaner down into each lifter before you pull them out. It will dissolve any deposits and make getting them out so much easier.
