I have a vp commodore. I replaced the engine with a vr motor was good for a while now lights keep dimming and battery light stays on. I checked for loose earth wire but all good any suggestions?

Check/replace the voltage regulator in your alternator. The brushes may be worn. Looks something like a dunny brush.

Voltage regulator in the alternator is most likely culprit, it will come off with two screws undone, dont try and force it straight out, you have to take it out on an angle or you'll break the carbon brushes. same goes for replacement. If youy are handy or know someone handy you can do the job cheap by replacing the carbon brushes only. If you replace the assembly you are looking at $60 or so for the part.
