I remember reading somewhere that in that ad they used tracers every 5 rounds. IBLOWN - who makes that 50 cal rifle the snipers use in IRAQ? the shells are f**kin huge
You mean the M82 Berrett Light Fifty? A company called Berrett. A rather crazy rifle. Maximum effective range of 1800 meters! The M82 .50 cal is an anti-material rifle which most of the time is used to detonate unexploded bombs which are too dangerous to approach normally. Theyre also used to disable vehicles by destroying the engine block. Not really made for shooting people. In the case of destroying ordinance, they will take the rifle to the target, disable the ordinance and leave the rifle as its too heavy to carry back (15 kg's). A $10,000 rifle is nothing compared to a million dollars worth of destroyed ordinace. If your in america you can own one for around $10,000 U.S.... Here you go, watch the power of an m82. http://youtube.com/watch?v=plsVqDyIFBo This one is with armour piercing incindary rounds. Very interesting. Weapons training video made by the marine corps. Check out the size of the primary rounds! http://youtube.com/watch?v=hDOBtgdScPA
Some random stuff about Gatling guns: They are an old invention, like US civil war era. They were rediscovered as a solution to the reduced target times allowed by increases in aircraft speeds after WW2 ie. with the advent of jet engines. Development was begun by 'borrowing' a civil war museum piece and attaching an electric motor (it originally being operated by a hand crank - the firing/loading is done using a cylindrical cam, similar to sequentially operated car and 'bike gearboxes). There is (or was) a smaller, hand held (!!??), 5.56mm version, as seen in the film Predator.
i remember reading that handheld gattling guns are impossible to make because of the power required, the weight of them, and the recoil of the weapon
i believe there are a few different version of the berrett .50cal rifle. there is a sniper version from memory. i believe the berrett rifle was first seen in robocop and it was the sniper rifle used in the movie about navy seals as well i think
if uv got foxtel u can see a doco on the machine guns origins.its called MACHINES OF WAR.it finishes with footage of the GAU-9Avenger,a gatling gun mounted on a small jet.its barrel is like 6mtrs long! with rounds that weigh 1.2kgs!! now thats a gun
the 50cal aint so deadly just get a few feet underwater and you should be safe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEyimoozVbk
Got an email today of some Canadian snipers vs the taliban at over 2000metres with 50cal tactical rifles. To put it simply, a rather messy outcome.
I can hit a golf ball from 150m away using a .22 rifle That minigun clip reminds me of one of my GTA: Vice City rampages
heres a pic of a standard 9mm nato round as used by most of the armed forces (western) for hand weapons like glocks etc and a .50 cal BMG round. not sure what the silver tip is, possibly armour piercing i've been told. put a V6 sparkplug in just for size comparison. the biggest gautling type gun ever mounted on an aircraft is on the A10 warthog. they can only fire it for a maximum of 10 seconds otherwise the aircraft looses to much airspeed and it fires rounds the size of the old glass milk bottles. other then that they have mounted the 105mm howitzer on the AC-130 specta gunships the US have. they also make depeleted uranuim rounds in .50 cal BMG and that goes through armour like a hot knife through butter.
Lack of full disclosure of the facts ****s me about mythbusters. Of course the copper jacket was broken apart - it's designed to break on impact. I couldnt make out the penetrator in his hand, but then again im not wearing my spectacles... IBLoWN, cheers, interesting info. I found the one i meant on youtube, it sounds like a different version of the one you mentioned. Immortality - nice one: looks like we got a few gun nuts here on JC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWJp14tkBlU I love the arguments over rounds in the comments.
any one c that new miami vice movie? in it theres a gang of ab(aryan brotherhd) and they take out some feds with positioned snipers, anyway u gotta watch it cause its the first movie that ive seen that shows what a 50.cal wuld do to humans, cars etc.i no its a movie but the vision is pretty accurate.the rounds basically put tennis ball size holes in the car and the ppl in it had ther arms shot off etc!chek it out and ul c wat i mean by being realistic.
The info I have says 38kg complete with 1000 rounds - called the Six-Pak. (From Guns and How They Work, Ian V Hogg). I doubt that the recommended technique would be to stand and hold it while firing - Predator style. Reread the section about early Gatlings and and electric motor was tried in the late 1800s too - nothing new under the Sun.
out of all planes the one i like the best happens to have a gattling gun on it the A10 tank buster 'Worthog', it has a gattling gun on it which is 6 meters long in total and is capperble of engaing targets at 2km away, the rounds are 29cm long and waight 700grams each with the total waight of the gun being 1.8 tons, so i reallty it aint a small fella, rpm is at 3000 if i recal, to aim the gun the plane needs to be aimed inline with the target then shoot, to be able to fly one of these you must be able to make 80% of rounds shot in a run be with in ten meters of the target also these builts are sub sonic so they are able to stay ahead of the plane but the scary thing is if you are in a trench and a A10 sweps the trench you would be dead before you even hear the gun fire as the bullets are moving quicker then the speed of sound, so you will not even here what just kill you. pritty scary heres a nice little video of some A10's in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nINgqs0_nh8 and here is one of the gun shooting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMFJxrD24KU&NR
